James, visiting The Catalyst Santa Cruz Mon, 24 February 2014

Liked: Staff was very friendly; hotel was clean (a little old); for the money and location, I would stay there again!

Great place to stay, close to everything. You can connect rooms which is pretty cool. You get a free breakfast. I'd recommend staying here if you are looking for a nice, affordable place.

Liked: Clean and free breakfast in the morning.
Disliked: Nothing negative.

Liked: The staff was friendly and helpful.
Disliked: Too many drug addicts hanging around the area. Kept finding drug paraphernalia around the outside the motel. The rooms were not the cleanest but i didn't see any bugs either.

Couldn?t pay me to go...

Disliked: Room hadn?t been cleaned thoroughly. Pubic hair on the ground and some one else?s personal belongings still in room . Bed are uncomfortable. The hotel is extremely noisy, you can hear every foot step some one takes in the rooms to either side or above.

Decent value for the money....

Liked: Location is good, close to the beach and the boardwalk. Hotel is old, but has been redecorated. The pool and two hot tubs were nice. The breakfast was decent, but entirely carbs. The beds were comfy.
Disliked: The toilets are very low to the ground, so if you have trouble getting up and down, it's an issue. The only thing that wasn't clean in the room was the moldy shower head. The elevator was out of order, but we had a first floor room with a sliding door that went right out to the pool, so that was ok.

Disliked: Lighting on front of hotel

Poor - 0.5 out of 5

Pretty bad

Liked: The room was large and had 2 balconies.
Disliked: I was shown a deluxe room with jacuzzi tub , the whole reason I chose this hotel, turns out they only have 1 like that, no bother from the staff to accommodate. In the AM my cream cheese was curdled and when I tried to re-enter the hotel from the parking lot the lady from the front desk literally blocked my path and rudely asked if she could help me, like I wanted to steal there rotten breakfast. I told her my room and she huffed and rolled her eyes .turns out 5 min before that my partner had the same experience with the manager! My partner who is a retail manager herself related to him his shotty customer service and poorly ran hotel. We will never consider this stay again. They treated us like homeless trying to nab a free meal , they never confronted a single other person coming in and out. Very unprofessional.
