Areas for Improvement

A step up from a...

Liked: Aug. 2025 -- Overall, will stay here again! We first considered staying at hostels, but none met our standards. This was a similar experience to a hostel but with private rooms and private bathroom --- LOCATION- Easy access to the VIA rail station (Gare central) using the subway system. - Located close to the subway station. We were able to buy a cheap weekend pass and get around the city easily. - NO BUGS- The rooms weren't overly clean, but there was no bedbugs or roaches. That was the most important thing. - SAFE- Located in a thriving, but quieter area. We stayed on a weekend in August and we didn't hear much noise in our room at night. We felt very safe, there was always someone at the front desk even though we came back late at night. The area itself feels very safe. - FOOD- There's lots of food options within a one minute walking distance. McDonalds is on the way to the subway, The Big Trouble café had a fantastic big breakfast, there's lots of dinner restaurants, fast food, desert places, Late night snacks. - STAFF- The staff were very friendly and most spoke enough English to get us by. We only had 2 small pillows and 3 towels in our room, the cleaning lady could understand us enough when we asked to give us 2 more small pillows, a bath towel and some face cloths. - There's lots of old buildings and history in the area. It was a short walk to a few beautiful parks.
Disliked: - Although the room had no bugs, it could have used a more thorough clean. Lots of hair and dirt on the bathroom walls. It was fine, I used baby wipes to clean it all. The plastic shower curtain needs replaced, and the fabric needs a wash. If you have space, pack your own toilet paper. There are no pillow covers on the pillows. Expect to see the stains on the pillows. Usually I'd bring my own, but traveling by train I had limited room. The mattress was thin and uncomfortable, but we were so tired it didn't matter. The carpet hadn't been vacuumed before our stay. We just left our shoes on.I didn't want to make a fuss, being from Ontario. Just make sure to take some wipes and latex gloves with you. The whole city is unhygienic, I had to take a travel pack of lysol wipes everywhere to wipe tables down. Remember-- this is similar to a hostel experience. Take the good with the bad.- Our room (#411) had been freshly smoked in. Burn holes in the carpet and in the sheets, although the sheets had been cleaned. We found a Jean Coutu and bought Febreze. Sprayed the shower curtain, carpets, bedding, left the window wide open the whole time, and the bathroom fan on. There was a small (dirty, but usable) fan that we left on in the room while we were there. Luckily, it wasn't an actual smoking room, so the smell had pretty much left by the time we checked out.The lobby, staircase and halls all smelled fine, someone had just abused the room before us.Quebec in general is a very cigarette- friendly place, we just rolled with it. You end up smelling like smoke everywhere you go anyways. Embrace the culture.- ***Not accessible***Beware- this hotel has a flight of stairs to enter and 3 floors of stairs and no elevator. I couldn't have stayed here when I was in a wheelchair. No aides in the bathroom, bathroom tubs are very slippery, windows completely open and are child height. #411 was very tight, it wouldn't have accommodated a wheel chair.

Good Value Central Location

Liked: The hotel is located in a lively area but as the street is closed to traffic it was a peaceful stay. Short metro ride to ols Montréal and all the sites. Staff friendly and hepful. Free good coffee and refreshing apple juice and water. Though a more simple hotel the bed was very comfortable and facilities were good.
Disliked: Air conditioning a little weak but was still comfortable even though it was the hottest time of year.

Liked: Price is good and location is a good area. We stayed in room 209 and room was good for the price and was clean. We are using buses to travel between main cities and its close to bus station. After reading reviews we were pleasantly surprised.

Substandard

Liked: good location and the fact that the bathroom was clean
Disliked: I had several issues during my stay at this hotel.First, there is no elevator, so I had to carry all my belongings and large suitcases up to the fourth floor myself. At night, the hotel door is locked, but there is no keypad or card entry system. One night, I was locked out and had to wait about 30 minutes for someone to arrive and open the door.On my first day and night, the central air conditioning was not working. At first, I thought there was no air conditioning in the hotel. On the second night, it started working, but the room became freezing cold with no way to adjust the temperature, and I was very cold.I also found a single slipper under my bed, which had clearly been left behind. The refrigerator in my room did not work at all.The rooms look like they are from the 1970s and are very outdated. And I encountered a few insects during my stay. Finally, The staffs were never friendly or welcoming at any point during my stay.
