Liked: I loved this hotel’s cultural yet modern decor. The room was clean, comfortable, and spacious. The staff was professional, friendly, and kind. Bell service safely stored our luggage and refrigerated medications 3 hours before checking in and 5 hours after checking out without an additional cost. The 24-hour hot drink machine was a life-safer! Breakfast was good, too; they offered a variety of foods and drinks. We really enjoyed our stay and recommend it to anyone who wishes to stay near Plaza Garibaldi. The nearby Mercado San Camilito offers a variety of delicious and affordable meals and desserts. We had the best caldo de gallina there!
Disliked: My only concern has nothing to do with the hotel itself, rather the area… I was deeply saddened to see that Plaza Garibaldi is not the romantic paradise it used to be. Although mariachis play lovely music at all times of the day and evening, the quality of the area has significantly deteriorated with an increased presence of vagabonds and homelessness. Many shops have closed and few venders were out both during the day and evening. There was heavy law law enforcement presence, which helped us feel safe; however, the visible use of narcotics and people sleeping, loitering, or peddling in the plaza were not addressed. The stench made for unpleasant strolls during the day and in the evenings. We made the best of it and supported a few vendors and local eateries, but we were heartbroken to see Plaza Garibaldi in poor condition.
