Blackout experience at Hotel Madrid...

Liked: This was a very different stay than usual, because it took place during the day of the total blackout in Spain. The staff were great: calm, professional, and very helpful. The room was excellent, and the day-after-the-blackout breakfast was as fantastic as usual. There was no sense that a massive blackout had taken place the day before. Thank you!!!
Disliked: This was a very different stay than usual, because it took place during the day of the total blackout in Spain. This meant that the elevators were not working and we had to take the stairs, in our case up to the 9th floor. This was NOT an issue given the context. However, what was an issue (and a massive one) was the lack of water!!! We still struggle to understand how a cut to electricity can trigger a cut to water. There was no water to use the toilets, not even those in the ground floor. It appears that the hotel relies on electric power to pump water throughout the building. Luckily power was restored some 10 hours later, and with that access to water. Had this not been the case for a day or two, it is hard to imagine how the hotel could have continued to function (for health reasons). I hope the owners of the hotel address this infrastructure issue and make sure that in the future access to water does not rely on electric power.
