Liked: The only thing you’ll like about the property is the location. Very old and outdated hotel. The girl at the reception desk has a horrible attitude!

Nice staff, great location

Liked: The location is perfect and makes it easy to enjoy Avalon. We walked everywhere and it was easy to pop back to the room to change or drop things off between activities.

Liked: The location was ideal, right in front of the waterfront and near most of the restaurants along the main walk way in Avalon. The staff were friendly, direct, and made sure to make you feel right at home. All requests we had in terms of extra pillows, room keeping, and even changing rooms were met.
Disliked: The hotel was very dated and often smelled of strong cleaning chemicals. While it is understood 'mom and pop' hotels tend to struggle in terms of having resources to upgrade and stay current with modern hotel cosmetic standards, the quality and spaces within Hotel Mac Rae did feel quite dated, from the carpeted rooms, to the bathroom. The bathroom especially felt dated. At times, it felt more like an old college dorm room than a hotel room given how much wear and tear the rooms had. If anything, the Hotel Mac Rae should consider a cosmetic makeover and choose a different cleaning product to use for its tile and rooms. My partner and I were also disappointed with the lack of a hotel spa/pool, but did appreciate the recommendation to use a different hotel's spa area.

Liked: This is the BEST hotel! They have the most excellent location. Close to everything. The rooms are comfortable and their story is charming! Four generations of one family, running the hotel since 1920. Loved it!
