The Spotlight on Hotel La Residence du Voyageur

Classic Charm and Central Access in Montreal

Hotel La Residence du Voyageur is a no-frills, budget-friendly hotel nestled on Sherbrooke Street in the heart of Montreal. With vintage-style rooms, free WiFi, and a 24-hour front desk, it’s a simple yet comfortable home base just minutes from some of the city’s top concert venues and nightlife spots. Its location near Sherbrooke Metro Station makes it especially convenient for exploring Montreal without a car.

Why Concert-goers love it

The hotel’s proximity—less than a 5-minute walk—to Sherbrooke Metro Station means you can zip to shows across the city with ease. After a long night, getting back is just as easy. The 24-hour front desk is a big plus for late arrivals, and the quiet street offers a peaceful retreat after a high-energy show. With flexible check-in at 3:00 PM and check-out at 11:30 AM, there’s room to relax before and after the concert rush.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for an affordable stay with easy transit access
  • Solo travelers catching a once-in-a-lifetime gig
  • Couples planning a concert-packed weekend getaway
  • Fans looking for a quieter, no-frills recovery spot
  • Budget-conscious music fans who want to stay central without breaking the bank

Food and Drink Options

While the hotel doesn’t offer on-site dining, its central location puts you within walking distance of countless cafes, casual eateries, and late-night food spots. Grab a bite on your way back from the venue, or fuel up with a nearby brunch after a late night out. For those who like options, the Plateau and Latin Quarter neighborhoods are brimming with tasty choices.

Nightlife Options

You’re just steps from Montreal’s lively nightlife scene. Whether you're into cozy pubs, cocktail lounges, or upbeat clubs, there’s something nearby. While the hotel itself is quiet, it's located between the Plateau and the Village—two of the city's most vibrant areas for post-show drinks or a second round of live music.

What People Say

Reviewers often highlight the hotel’s excellent location and affordability. Many guests appreciate the friendly 24-hour reception and how close it is to the metro. It’s frequently praised as a great base for travelers looking to spend more on experiences and less on lodging.

Areas for Improvement

This is an older building, so the decor is more traditional than trendy. Some guests note that the rooms are a bit dated, and the bathrooms could use a refresh. There's also no on-site breakfast or restaurant—but with so many local spots nearby, most guests don’t mind.

The Bottom Line

Hotel La Residence du Voyageur is a solid pick for concert-goers who want a central, budget-friendly place to crash without sacrificing location or convenience.

Family of 4 thought it...

Liked: We stayed on July 11th to July 14th 2025 and it was $521 after tax for three nights (with a third party discount from Booking.com), which was cheaper than most hotels at the time of booking. We called their facility to inquire about their utilities and they always picked up the phone, patiently answering questions. They were also very responsive on Booking.com's messaging system. The two double beds looked clean, no stains on the sheets or pillows. The TV was working fine and we liked that we could watch Netflix! The wi-fi was fast. The washroom looked recently renovated. We had a mini fridge. There was an A/C in the room which you can adjust. Our room remained cool despite the hot weather outside. They also let us borrow their water boiler upon request. The location was about a 5 minute walk from the Sherbrooke Station, connecting the orange line. It is also one stop away from Berri-UQAM, which connects all four lines of Montreal's metro. They allowed us to leave our luggage there after check-out at no cost. The younger male receptionist can speak both English and French. The $200 deposit was held on the day of check in and immediately returned/dismissed upon check out. We are satisfied with our stay.
Disliked: On Saturday, the elevator stopped working and so it was a bit of an inconvenience taking the stairs up to the fourth floor. Someone was to come and repair on Monday, but we had to check out by then and carry our luggage down. We saw a few bugs on the floor, which we believe came from the bathroom drainage hole due to the moisture or escaped through the window between the A/C. The walls/ceilings are on the thinner side, as you can sometimes hear people outside your room and above you, although we were located closest to the stairs/elevator.

Amazing location and value, completely...

Liked: Amazing location and value, just a few minutes from Sherbrooke station and some amazing neighborhoods. Smooth, curt and easy check in and out. Clean room, bathroom, bedding and towels. Soap and shampoo. Mini fridge.
Disliked: Listen, it was honestly completely fine, and amazing for the price, but certainly not luxurious. A nice bed that wasn't the cushiest. A bit of a tight squeeze in the bathroom. A few minutes for the shower to get hot up on the 5th floor. No real issues, just don't get too excited.

Good

Liked: I have read a lot of bad reviews on this hotel but it’s a one star hotel and it was exactly what I expected. The room was small and the facilities kind of basic but it was clean and you get what you pay for.
