Exceptional
Liked: Hotel Kristoffel was perfect! The family room was beautifully renovated and very very clean. The breakfast was excellent--probably the best we've had.

Liked: A good locations with the tram right outside and the beach just 100 metres away. Good continental breakfast with some cooked items on request like bacon and eggs as you like them.
Disliked: No bar. No lift and steep narrow stairs. Bedroom didn't have air conditioning and the windows only opened a very small amount. There was however a fan. Check out was a little early especially when awakened at 7am by pneumatic drills outside the hotel.

A quaint older hotel in...
Liked: Room was clean and very comfortable. The staff were lovely, being very helpful whenever they could and offerring helpful tips on making the best of Middelkerke, for example on the undocumented parking restrictions around town. and we found they could speak English, French and German fluently as well as their native Flemish. Breakfast was a real feast with the freshly made pastries something to look forward to. The location was excellent being only about 100 yards from the beach and sea front, and a short walk from a well planted park which included topiary, sculptures, and its own wood. The hotel was also right on the KT tramline that ran into the centre of Oostende and back until very late, and so was very easy to find. The hotel had period charm and obviously held happy memories from many previous guests.
Disliked: The building next door was undergoing a major refit and the building work which was very noisy started before breakfast and continued throughout the day. This is due to finish in a few weeks. There was no parking on the hotel premises, but the owners were very helpful in advising us where we could park free nearby. On arrival I found that Booking.com had not passed on our expected arrival time (7 pm) to the hotel, and reception was already shut when we arrived, which meant a conversation with the owner (who had given us up as a no-show) over an intercom with poor quality sound; however once this had been negotiated we found our room had been kept for us anyway in case, and was unlocked and waiting for us with the key inside, and was well worth the trouble of getting into.
