The Spotlight on Hotel Express Newcastle Gateshead

Affordable Base Near the Buzz of Newcastle

Modern and straightforward, Hotel Express Newcastle Gateshead offers budget-friendly comfort just outside the city center. Located only 1.1 miles from Newcastle's vibrant heart, this hotel is a convenient choice for those catching a gig and needing a good night’s rest. With free on-site parking, unlimited WiFi, and 24-hour reception, it’s all about ease and value here.

The hotel sits just a short drive from key venues like Metro Radio Arena and St. James’ Park, making it ideal for concert-goers who want to stay close without the city center price tag.

Why Concert-goers love it

Being just over a mile from top venues means you can easily walk or grab a short taxi to your gig—no need to stress about late-night transport. The 24/7 front desk is a bonus if your concert runs late, and free secure parking makes it easy for those driving in. Despite its close-to-the-action location, the hotel remains in a quieter part of Gateshead, offering a chance to wind down post-show.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends wanting a budget-friendly base with easy access to bars and venues
  • Solo travelers chasing a dream gig in Newcastle
  • Couples making a weekend of music and city sights
  • Fans who want a quieter space after the show
  • Budget-conscious travelers who still want comfort and convenience

Food and Drink Options

While the hotel doesn’t have an on-site restaurant, tea and coffee making facilities in every room help with late-night cravings. You’re also just a short distance from the Quayside and Metrocentre, packed with a variety of bars, restaurants, and late-night eats. For breakfast after a long night out, several nearby cafés open early and serve hearty meals.

Nightlife Options

The nearby Quayside area, just 2 miles away, is home to some of Newcastle’s trendiest bars and lounges. Whether you're after a pre-concert pint or a post-show wind-down, there's no shortage of nightlife within easy reach. While the hotel itself doesn’t host live music, you’re close to the city's best spots for it.

What People Say

Guests consistently mention the great value for money, friendly 24-hour staff, and free parking as standout features. Many highlight the location as ideal for events at the arena or football stadium. Rooms are described as simple but clean, with fast WiFi and good showers.

Areas for Improvement

This isn’t a luxury stay—you might find the décor a bit dated and the walls a little thin. Some guests mention noise from nearby roads, so light sleepers may want to pack earplugs. Still, for the price and location, most agree it’s a solid deal.

The Bottom Line

If you’re catching a concert in Newcastle and want a no-fuss, affordable place to crash nearby, Hotel Express Newcastle Gateshead hits the right notes.

Disliked: The noise from other guests in the hotel and the leak in the bathroom from the sink. I tried to tell the staff on check out but couldn't find anyone.

Liked: Location was cheap to get to Stadium. Breakfast was decent enough, however no choices. Staff were extremely helpful and the best part of the hotel.
Disliked: The hotel itself is just grubby and rundown. It was clean enough, but possibly not enough attention to detail as there were still hairs and fingernails left behind. The fixtures and fittings are falling apart, if they are present at all, and furniture broken, bed not comfortable. The area is rundown, and there are unfavourable characters hanging around. I didn’t feel safe enough to walk around at night, so got Ubers. Didn’t feel secure connecting to the free WiFi as no WiFi matched the correct name so raised alarm bells.

Do not stay here

Liked: Very little. Reasonably ok for convenience to Newcastle
Disliked: Various health and safety violations. No emergency signage on back of bedroom doors. All internal fire doors wedged or propped open. Room stank of cigarettes. Only a few sockets work. No hot water in the evening.
