A beauty that does not...

Liked: This is a beautiful hotel. We were upgraded to a King suite and it was wonderful. Birthday cupcakes greeted us in our room. We booked services at the spa in the hotel and that was really lovely. There is an inexpensive food court attached to the hotel (closed Sundays) which was nice. The hotel is in the heart of downtown Wilmington - perhaps better to be there during the week as almost everything is closed on the weekends, including the neighboring Starbucks.
Disliked: As I said, this is a beautiful hotel. But it broke my heart. So beautiful and yet so ordinary. The main heartbreaks were the bar and restaurant. Mosaic tiled floors, soaring ceilings, beautiful wood bar, comfy banquet seating. And yet - the bar is open from 4-9 - and this on a Saturday!!! Nothing is open around the hotel, so there is NOWHERE to go for an after dinner drink. Nowhere to relax in this beautiful hotel. The ratings for the restaurant on other review sites are accurate. The prices are high while the food is average. The wait staff, while friendly, are not attentive or knowledgeable about the food (the worst was that one waiter told me there were no nuts in the bread - I'm allergic- and there were, but the waiters seemed unfamiliar with some of the food and its prep). The Sunday brunch is not worth the money as the food for our brunch was below average. Some diners left their plates uneaten. And to have to wait over 10 minutes and then ask to be served coffee for breakfast, is in my opinion, torture.

Beautiful and great location but...

Liked: The location is comfortable and walk-able to various restaurants. The common space decor is attractive.Friendly valet but sometimes short staffed.Pet friendly.
Disliked: We were charged almost $500 more than our quoted reservation rate. The elevator doors almost crushed my toddler because the sensors would not stop the doors from closing as we were getting on. We even tried using our hands. We had to grab the baby and jump back to avoid a serious accident.Skip room service. The french toast breakfast tasted like unripened bananas. The chocolate croissants are tiny, dry and hard.Housekeeping would forget to replace the towels, soaps and coffee tray items every single time they cleaned. They would take the old towels off the floor and leave nothing! We had to ask for EVERYTHING!

It is an amazing place...

Liked: The architecture was amazing from the staircase to the room. Everything was quite elegant. Kudos to the front desk clerk and the valet parking attendants who went above and beyond.
Disliked: Initially, we weren?t going to use the valet parking, but the parking garages near the hotel either were not open or user friendly. We tried 2 before giving up and paid extra for the valet parking. So it would have been nicer if the hotel had its own parking area. We had a little trouble logging our Apple devices onto their Wi-Fi, too.

Blah--for a hotel of this...

Liked: Actually, it's what I did NOT like. We arrived at the restaurant for breakfast at 9:30 am & were told that there would be no more fresh coffee (when I asked for some) because they were closing at 10:00 am--unacceptable! (And, believe me--this was not an "unexpensive" meal!)
Disliked: The room was small (it was supposed to be a "superior king room) for the nightly price.
