After the encore, retreat to a quieter corner of downtown. The hotel’s classic, more intimate vibe is perfect for guests who want to unwind post-show. While there’s no mention of late-night transport options on-site, rideshares and public transport are readily available in this central area.

Nightlife Options

Hotel De Anza is right in the middle of downtown San Jose’s entertainment district, so it’s a short stroll to bars, lounges, and live music spots. While the hotel doesn’t advertise its own live music or bar, it’s well-positioned for pre- and post-show drinks, and you’ll find plenty of local craft cocktails within walking distance.

What People Say

Guests love the hotel’s central location and how easy it is to reach major venues. Reviews often mention the friendly staff and the unique, vintage character of the building. Many appreciate the quiet rooms despite the downtown location—ideal for catching some rest after a loud night.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests mention that the hotel is showing signs of its age in places, and that the rooms could use a bit of a refresh. Parking can be a bit expensive or tricky, so plan ahead if you’re driving in. No on-site restaurant or bar might be a downside for those who prefer everything under one roof.

The Bottom Line

Very Good - 4.0 out of 5

Steven, El Dorado, visiting SAP Center at San Jose Thu, 9 May 2024

We were very pleased with our stay at the hotel although it is pricey. However, the convenient walking proximity to restaurants and the SAP Center is really nice. If you need parking, it is limited. Valet is $47 a night. We were only there for one night so parked on the street where it is free from 6:00 pm to 9:00 am.

Liked: It was very clean and modern inside. People were nice and check-in was quick and easy. Plenty of restaurants within easy walking distance. SAP Center walk is an easy 7-8 minutes.
Disliked: Intermittent noise from outside can be annoying. Also, our fridge motor was somewhat noisy. Hotel is pricey. Rooms are nice and clean, but nothing special.

Terrible room: 209

Liked: Let me first say- I never submit negative reviews, I give a ton of grace to places I stay, but I have never stayed in a room this horrible and feel like I need to warn others. This specific room was terrible, the size of a closet - please ask to be moved if assigned room 209. This room is down a tiny stairway, very small and had no exterior windows, just a floor to ceiling window that looks into the lounge/bar area- very strange. The air conditioner makes a super loud humming noice (grating / not like white noise) and to top it off, when you flush the toilet, water gurgles up into the sink. They had a DJ party in the lounge the night I was staying and did not inform me as per their stated policy. When I came back to the room around 10:30pm, I asked the front desk how long the DJ party would be happening since it is right outside my window and very loud. They estimated until 11pm. It went until 12:40am. No ability to sleep, they could not move me since the hotel was full. When I asked for a discount or refund the manager told me to seek that out through my 3rd party booking Booking.com as they could not do it without the 3rd party booking party asking for this. I'm including the photos of the room with the curtains open that show the lounge, and then a shot from the video I took of the DJ party...again right below and outside the window. Please know, I am not a complainer and I am usually just happy to have a room with a bed, but this was completely outside of the realm of hotel experiences I have ever had and I want to make sure that others know about this closet of a room. I was so, so very disappointed, maybe those with small children can relate - I have one night out this year and this is the experience I had- I was just so disappointed. The staff was friendly and apologetic..but this was overall a huge disappointment. The review won't let me submit videos but the DJ music was pumping straight into the room!
Disliked: They could have refunded me, moved my room, anything - I had a hard time sleeping. I am not even sure this room meets legal code to be a room since it has no windows that open to the outside and one pane of glass separating it from the lounge.

Superb

Liked: The room was well decorated, and loved the vintage art deco architecture! The bed was comfortable, and the room was clean. Location was excellent as well!
Disliked: My only point of criticism was that I wish the water in the shower drained better. Also, the hot water was slow to come on in the sink.

Wonderful stay

Liked: Beautiful hotel in a great location. We arrived at about 1.30am after a delayed flight during which our luggage was lost by the airline. The night manager (I didn't get his name unfortunately) was so helpful and lovely - he gave us some toothbrushes and toothpaste as we had nothing, and also let us leave our car in the valet area rather than make us pay for valet seeing as most of the night was over. The room was lovely and clean, and the bed was super comfortable.
Disliked: No issues at all.
