Top location, but run down...
Liked: Historic part of the hotel. Location right next to dome.
Disliked: Our room was not in the historic part of the hotel, but a 1950ish annex. Hot! No AC. Room wasn't aired when we arrived. Our own airing was difficult due to windows that can't be locked open. Sweating through the night, then the shower did not work. To their credit it was fixed the same day. As a bonus it turned out that the hairdrier did also not work. When we told them they didn't even apologize. They do no clean rooms or even make beds, ostensibly on a "green" pretense. They offer to clean on demand, but when we asked for it on the third day, they never did it. Their coffee "machine" pours instant coffee - ugh! - last encountered that in the 1980ies. Spare ribs seemed microwaved, with synthetic "roast aromas" provided by gravy with the consistency of axle grease.

Liked: Location was excellent.Staff helpful and friendly.
Disliked: Breakfast was a bit busy - but was ok!

Atmospheric hotel in the centre...
Liked: Good location in the centre of town. Have stayed before and enjoy the atmosphere of the hotel
Disliked: It was Friday night and a bar close by had a loud band playing which kept us awake…but I guess that is to be expected on a Friday night.

Lovely to stay in the...
Liked: Wonderful position. Lovely building. The room was comfortable and adequate size.
Disliked: Breakfast average, coffee poor.

Beautiful old hotel
Liked: Very nice historical hotel with beautiful rooms. Good breakfast. Amazing location.

Liked: Stunning location. Large room in annexe building across the square.
Disliked: Quite a long walk to the public car park. Booking dinner was a confusing experience involving asking at reception but then being told to go down to the restaurant where they don’t do bookings so they told me to go back upstairs to reception!

Overall, recommended.
Liked: The location was excellent - right in the middle of the old town. Staff were helpful and friendly. The restaurant was good.
Disliked: The rooms are a little tired in terms of decor. Clearly it’s a centuries old building, but I felt it would benefit from an update to the furnishings. There was a hairdryer in my room but it wouldn’t fit into any of the plug sockets. The Lonely Planet says rooms have cathedral views ‘as standard’, but my room looked onto a service area at the back of the building. That was probably because I was a solo traveller in one of the cheaper rooms.
