Hotel Conde Duque Bilbao

Good accommodation choice for visiting...

Liked: Extremely attentive front desk team. Comfortable beds and pleasant lining. Location within walkable distance from the Museum, Pintxos (tapas) bars, Old City, local tram station, funicular. Parking provided.
Disliked: At breakfast, which is fairly good, I would have been appreciated some extra veggies aside tomatoes slices.

Good location and price

Liked: Basic hotel with everything you need. Great sized bathroom with lovely big shower, sink, towel rails, hooks and lighting. I liked that there was a blanket in the cupboard for if a sheet was too thin/light to sleep under. Staff were very cheerful and friendly. AC unit was great at keeping the room cool but had to turn off a night time as it was very noisy.
Disliked: There is a smell of stale smoke when you walk in to the lobby and the hotel only has very firm, thick pillows. They were perfect for my partner but I sleep on a thin, softer pillow. The hotel didn’t have an alternative so I had to sleep with a pillow case wrapped round a small throw cushion that decorated the bed. Not very comfortable.

Liked: A bit pricey for the service provided. That said, it was clean and served its purpose.
Disliked: I had to ask for a tea set at reception (no milk given), then told that the breakfast/bar staff would give me some milk for my tea and coffee, and was then charged 1,70€ for a cup of milk. 1,70€ is ridiculous, especially in a country like Spain. I couldn’t even refuse it and go and buy some from the shop, because the bar staff had poured the glass and printed a receipt before I even asked if I had to pay for it.I also would’ve appreciated a heads up that there’s parking outside the hotel, as I had to go up and down the busy street several times to find somewhere to park, to then only discover there was parking at the front door!

Bilbao is a lovely city...

Liked: This hotel is the perfect location to visit Bilbao, looking over the river. 10 minutes walk to Old town and 10 minutes walk to the new part. The reception staff were so helpful, especially Jorge and Osana. Jorge gave us information on local restaurants and when we asked for a kettle for the room, Jorge brought it up himself, with tea/coffee and sugar. Osana was great with telling us which local shops to go to and told us about the free Blues concert. We didn't have breakfast but the cafe in the hotel served lovely food. Our room had a balcony overlooking the river.
Disliked: We could hear people moving around and talking in the next room each morning so maybe a bit of soundproofing but it didn't spoil the hotel for us.
