Liked: A heritage hotel right @ the funk zone . The pier accessible by walk cycle cart and e cars around. The place to go have sea urchins

Liked: Amazing location close to the beach and the Funkzone. I am fortunate enough to have stayed in a lot of 5* hotels and I think the room in this one is the best I have ever stayed in. The little touches like a little poem or words of wisdom left in the room at turn down, just make it feel that much more special.Really friendly and helpful staff, not too formal (which I prefer). We really couldn't have asked for more. We would never stay anywhere else in Santa Barbara. We stayed several places from San Francisco to LA and agreed this is the place we wish we had spent more time. Excellent, treat yourself to a stay at the Californian, you really won't regret it.
Disliked: The hotel is spread across three blocks so lacks a little in convenience, but more than makes up for it in other areas. It is expensive but did not feel like poor value. The pool bar was closed when we were there because it wasn't particularly warm.

Beautiful hotel in fantastic location...

Liked: The room is beautifully appointed and the hotel is located in the best possible location.
Disliked: The cups in the room were not washed when the room was cleaned.The so called restaurant was short on 4 dishes and had a limited menu. For such a beautiful hotel there should be a fine dining restaurant.

Liked: Great location with hotel spread across three buildings at the end of state street and near Stearn’s pier - location is good and just one block from the water
Disliked: Honestly overpriced for what we paid along the PCH - unsure if that is time of year or just Santa Barbara
