There's potential here but there...
Liked: First and foremost, the bed is superb and I slept very well. First impression is of a European pension, with only 19 rooms, high ceilings, operable windows with a Juliet balcony, an in-room fireplace, and just somewhat tattered luxury. Breakfast is delivered to the room and was scrumptious, just delicious. The Kensington neighbourhood is fun and diverting with lots of dining options even in these Covid-impacted times. Staff are unerringly cool and pleasant.
Disliked: I like a cool room but nothing seemed to make the room warm- even setting my in-room thermostat to 23 didn't really help and the fireplace only seemed to warm the area adjacent to it. The bathroom is odd- the handle on the shower tap is loose and it's impossible to know where you are in terms of hot vs cold water, and the light in the bathroom is dim. The heat in the bathroom doesn't seem to do anything either and even though it was wintry but not bitterly cold during my stay, it was always cold in my room. Lack of good coffee is jarring when Calgary is so blessed with quality roasters- no coffee option with the delivered breakfast and then you have cheap Keurig machines with horrible Timothy's coffee pods. Why not proper brewed coffee?? Finally I asked several times for the music in the bar area to be turned down or off- it was intrusive in my room, went on at something like 7:30a, and was a horrible playlist with lots of 80s and 90s schlock (Phil Collins? Really?) that doesn't fit the Hotel Arts brand- it felt like being in a Denny's or something. This is my third staycation since the pandemic began and sadly I won't be staying at Hotel Arts Kensington again.

Nice place to stay but...
Liked: 1. The location is excellent. Lots of restaurants and shops (including a Safeway) within easy walking distance.
2. Memorial Drive walkways are a few meters away so there are lots of places to walk.
3.The room was comfortable, nice bathroom and really appreciated the sparkling water.
4. Underground parking very convenient.
5. Location in city makes it easy to access most areas of the city.
Disliked: 1. I think the price is high for what you get in the room. Knew the price going in so expected more.
2. No fridge. Nice to have one so we could put some fruit/cheese in it for snacking.
3. Bed was too soft. Although some people like a really soft bed, we prefer a much harder one. Woke up in the morning stiff and not well rested.
4. The mint smelling soaps were not pleasant. We prefer unscented. I know people who could not use your soaps dues to chemical sensitivities. You may want to consider scentless soaps/shampoos.
5. Small thing - don't much care for elevators - would have preferred stairs especially when only going one floor - but can understand protocols.
