The Spotlight on Hotel Abri du Voyageur

Affordable Charm in the Heart of Montreal

Hotel Abri du Voyageur is a cozy, budget-friendly stay right in downtown Montreal. This no-frills hotel is just a 5-minute walk to Saint-Laurent Metro Station, giving you easy access to the city’s top concert venues and nightlife. With a mix of standard rooms and studio apartments featuring kitchenettes, it’s a great value pick for travelers who want the essentials without sacrificing location.

Why Concert-goers love it

Its central spot means you’re just minutes from major venues and hotspots like Old Montreal and the Quartier Latin. After a show, getting home is simple with nearby metro access and a 24-hour front desk to greet you. The hotel is in a lively neighborhood, but being a fully non-smoking property with private room options helps keep things peaceful when it’s time to crash.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking to stay downtown without blowing the budget
  • Solo travelers seeing a bucket-list artist
  • Couples making a weekend of it with nearby food and culture
  • Fans wanting a quieter post-concert recovery space with private rooms or studios
  • Budget-conscious music fans who want to be close to the action

Food and Drink Options

The hotel offers a daily breakfast served from 07:30 to 10:00, perfect for recovering after a late night. While there’s no on-site restaurant, studio apartments include kitchenettes for DIY meals, and there are tons of walkable restaurants and late-night eateries nearby in the Quartier Latin and Old Montreal.

Nightlife Options

You're steps from Montreal’s dynamic nightlife scene, with bars, live music clubs, and lounges all within walking distance. While the hotel itself doesn’t offer live music, its unbeatable location places you right in the middle of the city’s entertainment district.

What People Say

Reviews often praise the excellent location, friendly staff, and value for money. Travelers love how easy it is to get around, especially to and from shows. Studio rooms with kitchenettes are a big plus for longer stays or those on a budget.

Areas for Improvement

The hotel is more basic than boutique, so don’t expect luxury amenities. Some guests note the building is older and rooms can be on the smaller side. But for the price and location, most agree it’s a great deal.

The Bottom Line

If you're looking for a simple, affordable place to sleep after a show, Hotel Abri du Voyageur puts you near the action without draining your concert budget.

Liked: Quiet and secluded room. Staff was friendly and helpful throughout the stay. Staff attention made other inconveniences tolerable
Disliked: Not enough utensil variety in kitchen; awkward stairs made it difficult to maneuver with luggage - i.e., up half a floor and then down again, while back door was a simple straight and easy way to get out, but not usable.

It's giving Chelsea Hotel, kind...

Liked: The vibe is kind of 1970s New York / Chelsea Hotel, gritty but charming. Unbeatable location, everything you need is within a 10 min walk. We came for a literary festival and it was great being able to walk to the venue. The breakfast was quite good for the price (simple toast, nutella, peanut butter, bananas and apples, and the coffee was excellent). It's in a charming old building, with a large terrace and some interesting art / furniture pieces inside. The staff were mostly friendly and responsive, offering a hair dryer / iron if needed (though we didn't end up using either). Decent wifi and refillable water station. The shared bathroom was clean, relatively well maintained, and usually empty. It's a relaxed atmosphere, and you can hang out in the library reading / talking on the phone without anybody bothering you. I've heard talk of ghosts, but sadly we did not witness any paranormal activity :)
Disliked: Because of the location and some iffy locks on the entrance door, one night we couldn't get in for about 5 minutes because of a homeless person on the staircase landing. The person left eventually, but it was quite scary, and our calls did not go through to the lobby. We were told this had never happened before and did not get any advice on what to do if it were to happen again. The walls are quite thin so you will hear every step in the hallway, the water in the shower goes cold quickly, and it also gets rather cold at night (late May), so pack some warmer clothing. The room smelled like smoke despite the 'no smoking' signs everywhere.
