Nice basic stay
Liked: We ordered food for our evening meal which was lovely, good menu choice. Staff pleasant, room was clean, slightly dated but overall a nice stay.
Disliked: Needed black out curtains, bed wasn't that comfortable so didn't sleep great. Wasn't anyone's fault as these things happen but on our 1st morning my breakfast order was missed so everyone had ate theirs by time mine arrived but someone had phoned in sick and the poor staff member was on her own and hadn't worked there very long so was trying to do everything so felt sorry for her. The next morning was a better dining experience.

It’s honestly been better at...
Liked: Privacy of room, location.
Disliked: We have stayed at the Honest Lawyer on at least 6 occasions, over the last few years. We first booked because it is dog-friendly and a great location, close to Durham, which we love, and the perfect spot to stop off on longer drives to Scotland. We’ve always enjoyed our time there and especially like the privacy and stylish decor of the individual motel-style rooms. We have even invited friends and family to join us and all appreciated the friendly welcome and great service from staff.Unfortunately, on this occasion, our room looked tired and in need of some attention, with a broken bathroom door, cracked sink, loose taps and toilet roll holder, for example.Staffing was much reduced and those serving in the bar and restaurant seemed disengaged and disinterested. As vegetarians, it was particularly poor to only have one option, and that same option on both evenings, which meant that we decided to go elsewhere on the second evening. We did ask if there was anything else that vegetarians could be offered but were told “no”.We’d wanted a coffee after our meal, on the first night, but were informed that the coffee machine had been switched off, and this was at only 8.15pm.When we arrived for breakfast my husband and I were asked for two different room numbers, yet when other couples arrived it was assumed that they shared a room. The server seemed confused and service was then functional in comparison to the friendly, warmth others received - for others, nothing was too much trouble, but when we ordered the vegetarian breakfast it arrived with items missing that were advertised on the menu.Meat eaters, on the other hand, were heard to be asking for or were offered as many of the meat products as they wanted.I would say that the new chef has little interest in catering for vegetarians and this will ultimately lead to a loss in business, since we also decided to cancel breakfast on the second morning.
