Holiday Inn Sacramento-Capitol Plaza By IHG

I attend many conferences and stay at hotels all over the conference. This hotel is tied for the worst I have ever stayed at, especially for the price. I reserved seven rooms for a cohort and these problems applied to us all. There was no mini fridge to keep items in. There was no closet for clothing. We had a rack positioned next to the tv. The remote control didn't work with the tv. I had to drive around the parking garage for 20 minutes (shorter than one of my colleagues) to find a parking stall. You allowed revelers for Mardi Gras to utilize the facilities instead of prioritizing the guests. There were two people shot outside the hotel with one being killed. Four of the seven reservations I made for my group were canceled and I had to repay for the rooms again. I still need to check the credit card statement to make sure the cancelations are reflected on the bill. The two clerks working the desk were extremely rude and uninterested in helping those checking in (not just my group). The night manager was equally rude to my female colleagues when they asked about checking in. He was disinterested in their needs and wouldn't help them until their official check-in time -- "your 20 minutes early." This has to be the worst hotel experience of my life. I have another conference in Sacramento next week and found out I was registered at your hotel. I called immediately and had my secretary cancel the reservation. I will never stay in your hotel again.

Liked: GSA Erin was great…she helped us with directions and places of interest around Sacramento…she was also informative f what the property offers…and nearby restaurants…thanks Erin for how a check in should feel…comfortable, easy and informed!!!

Liked: The staff were absolutely amazing. Their customer service was A1 and they were just so friendly and accommodating from the front desk to the nearby restaurant and bar. Everybody was amazing. The standout staff was a staff in the bar named Shelly and then there was a maintenance staff named Darin and they were both just amazing people with great personalities. Great interaction skills with people and just seem to be very positive people overall. The late night front desk staff were also very friendly. They understood the assignment about Customer Service for sure. I also love the location because I was attending an event at nearby. Golden One center. It was a very short walk and then in addition to that it’s a brief walk to old Sacramento, where there are restaurants and other things to do. The bed was extremely comfortable, although I didn’t spend much time in it due to travel require requirements.
Disliked: The rooms were definitely owed and dated and definitely need to be upgraded, particularly the bathrooms.. I didn’t like that there was a $35 fee to check in early especially since I wasn’t even staying 24 hours. They did offer me an opportunity to sign up for an online program so that they would waive the fee, but I just thought it was unnecessary. I would’ve loved for them to have the black make up washcloths that many hotels have but they did offer wet wipes, which are OK but the towels would’ve been better. There are homeless people around the area, which was not the greatest, but they weren’t bothering anyone that I could tell. I thought the hotel was a little pricey for what they offered.

Liked: The convenience of staying 3 days for the night before my son graduation, the night of his graduation, and the day after. It was a perfect hope and skipped to the Golden One Center, where his graduation was held. The last celebration was a Punch Bowl, which took all the stress of me. Again, this is an extremely stress-free party and back to my hotel.
Disliked: I didn't visit the pool.

Liked: What I loved most about our stay at the Holiday Inn in Sacramento was the exceptional hospitality—we were warmly welcomed, and every staff member we encountered was genuinely kind and helpful. The room was spotless and had a fresh, clean scent that made it feel extra inviting. The bed was incredibly comfortable—I honestly didn’t want to get out of it!Breakfast was a treat each morning, with a variety of delicious options to start the day right. The lobby was another highlight—beautifully designed with cozy, stylish seating. We traveled with another couple and spent time relaxing there just chatting; the chairs were so comfortable, we could’ve stayed for hours.The location couldn’t have been better—just steps from the outdoor mall, fantastic restaurants, and great entertainment, all within easy walking distance. Overall, it was a wonderful experience that made our trip even more enjoyable. Highly recommend!
Disliked: I would have appreciated a refillable water bottle.
