Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Pittsburgh-South Side

Overall the hotel is great. Only bad experience was the breakfast which we were hoping for after spending so much in the city.

Liked: Very close to concert venue and a lot of bars and restaurants.
Disliked: Breakfast was terrible and the food staff made it clear they don't like their job or helping people out!

Close to venue. That was a major plus. Within walking distance even in the cold. When we tried to look out our window the blind was broken and was told someone could "try" to fix it. That wasn't a deal breaker, it happens. Clerk at front desk was very nice, even gave us directions. Came back from show at Rex about 2:30 a.m. Got to bed late thinking we could just sleep in. This was not the case. Around 8:00 a.m. we heard people verbally fighting. My husband went and told them to take it elsewhere. A few of them where physically fighting the second time he went out. It was around 10 a.m. by the time it was totally quiet. We were not the only ones to hear it. As we were heading downstairs for breakfast the elevator was full of unhappy campers. Breakfast was there but grossly overrated. Cereal, muffins, yogurt and fruit. For the room cost I thought something hot would be provided. Leaving the parking lot after checkout, the clerk was on the phone because a few girls wanted a refund, no less than 4 police cars blocked our way out. I believe a free stay would help me understand that sometimes these things happen but they care enough about their customers for them to want to return. So, clean room and bathroom but for the money we paid no way does it deserve the 8.6 rating they boast at the check in.

Disliked: Fights at 8 a.m. among employees outside our door.

Liked: Dirty, frig did not work, moldy and security was Real bad nearly none! Hotel worker got in fight with a non-guess!

Liked: The location is great to access Carson St and their breakfast never disappoints.
Disliked: It was under renovation which we weren’t told about until check in day. Requested an end room and was put right by the elevator. As a light sleeper it was a rough night. The construction crew started working early in the morning. Anytime someone flushed their toilet it bubbled the one in my room. The room really wasn’t that clean. Tons of stray hairs everywhere. Had we knew about the renovation we would’ve chosen a different location but being told the day of check in didn’t allow us to do that. They offered some extra points and didn’t charge for parking for the inconvenience. Their perk could’ve been better as that doesn’t do much for the inconveniences. This is my worst HIE stay I’ve had and I typically choose them.

Disliked: They were under construction and no amenities were available. I am handicapped and found it very difficult to get around d in the Hotel. We had to leave a day early due to this.
