The Spotlight on Holiday Inn Express Edinburgh City Centre

Smart, Central Stay in Edinburgh's New Town

Modern comfort meets Georgian charm at the Holiday Inn Express Edinburgh City Centre. Housed in a historic building just five minutes from Princes Street and Edinburgh Waverley Station, this hotel is a reliable and budget-conscious choice for music fans visiting Scotland's capital.
Rooms are simple but well-equipped, with free Wi-Fi, satellite TV, and fresh tea and coffee. Every stay includes a complimentary hot and cold buffet breakfast—perfect fuel after a late night out.

Why Concert-goers love it

Just a short stroll from major venues like the Edinburgh Playhouse and the many bars and clubs of the New Town, this hotel makes it easy to get to and from your show. The location across from the Omni Centre means late-night dining and entertainment are right outside your door. Add in flexible check-in from 15:00 and a relaxed lounge bar for winding down, and you’ve got a great base for your concert night.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends who want walkable nightlife and easy access to shows
  • Solo travelers catching a bucket-list gig
  • Couples planning a concert weekend getaway
  • Fans looking for a quieter place to recharge after the encore
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who want value without sacrificing comfort

Food and Drink Options

The hotel offers a free daily buffet breakfast with hot and cold options—ideal after a night out. While there’s no full-service restaurant on-site, the relaxed lounge bar serves drinks (including a wide range of whiskies), and the hotel is surrounded by restaurants with evening menus. The Omni Centre across the street has even more dining choices, many open late.

Nightlife Options

You’re steps away from some of Edinburgh’s best nightlife. The Omni Centre features bars, restaurants, and even a cinema, while nearby George Street and Broughton Street are packed with pubs and lounges. Back at the hotel, the casual lounge bar is a great spot for a nightcap with local spirits.

What People Say

Guests love the central location, with many reviews highlighting how easy it is to walk to venues and city attractions. The friendly staff, clean rooms, and included breakfast also get consistent praise. Many mention the hotel as a great base for exploring the city before or after a show.

Areas for Improvement

Rooms are on the smaller side, and the décor is more functional than flashy. Some guests have noted occasional street noise—expected in a city centre location—but nothing that a pair of earplugs couldn’t fix.

The Bottom Line

For concert-goers, the Holiday Inn Express Edinburgh City Centre offers unbeatable location, comfort, and value—just steps from the action without the high price tag.

Apart from the small issues...

Liked: Great helpful, friendly, professional staff. Check in allowed us to store our bags as we had arrived before the check in time. Excellent location as we were visiting the Edinburgh Playhouse which was opposite Problem with air condition in room promptly sorted by member of staff.
Disliked: Couldn’t find a table for three at breakfast. Finally did. Had to ask for cups at coffee/tea machine as queue of people waiting. Good choice of food catering for everyone. However some of the hot items were only warm, not hot. Think the toaster machine needs to be slightly altered as quite a few people were having to put their slices of bread in many times to get it brown without much success

Very good

Liked: Location was central and close to train line. Parking was limited, so ensure that you are designated a carpark if you are travelling from a distance. Entry to carpark is also confusing....not well signed. Staff was helpful and happy to answere any questions we had. Breakfast was busy and quite good. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Needs a ramp access to main street for access.

Enjoy the stay at this...

Liked: This hotel location is very conveniently located. Its within walking distance to Edinbugh's Waverley train station, trams services, shopping centre which has plenty of restaurants, Princes street (which is the oxford street of this city) and Edinburgh's Castle(20min). Check in process was straight forward. If you are given rooms on the top floor, please use the appropriate lift. The room itself is clean with comfortable bed. Car parking is at the back of the hotel which is free but very limited (7 spaces). So on arrival by car please drive round to the back of the hotel first. One has to press the button and push the door straight away to enter into the building. Then take a ligft to the first floor to the reception. Breakfast is ok(on 2nd floor) with full english but scrambled eggs is a bit dry to my liking. The buffet restaurant (Cosmo) is opposite the hotel. Tesco express is nearby.
Disliked: The room can be quite hot and stuffy during hot summer period. If you open the louvre window, then it can be noisy. However, I don't have major issues with the room or the hotel for its price is value for money.

Would recommend to others

Liked: Staff were great, facilities lovely, location great, room was fine, but looked tired and had stains all over carpet
Disliked: Breakfast was disappointing, it was incredibly expensive for 1 night and expect room and breakfast to be higher standard for that price
