Stylish Comfort Steps from Edinburgh’s Music Scene

Modern and elegant, the Hilton Edinburgh Carlton blends historic charm with contemporary flair, right in the heart of Edinburgh. Set on the iconic Royal Mile and directly next to Waverley Rail Station, this 4-star hotel offers unbeatable access to the city’s top attractions—including live music venues, theaters, and nightlife. With sleek rooms, a trendy bar, and a steakhouse from Marco Pierre White, it’s a polished base for any music-fueled getaway.

Why Concert-goers love it

Location, location, location. Just steps from Waverley Station, you can hop off the train and be checking in within minutes. Popular concert venues and late-night spots are all within easy walking distance, meaning no need for cabs or complicated transport after the show. Thick walls and comfy beds provide a quiet retreat post-gig, and with a 3:00 PM check-in and 11:00 AM check-out, the timing works well for both early arrivals and slow starts the next day.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Solo travelers attending a bucket-list show
  • Couples making a weekend out of a concert night
  • Fans who want a quieter, classy space to crash after the noise

  • Nineteen Hundred Bar offers cocktails, whisky, and light bites until late
  • Plenty of nearby eateries on the Royal Mile and Princes Street for pre- or post-show snacks

  • Nineteen Hundred Bar is perfect for a nightcap in a relaxed setting
  • Walkable to clubs and lounges for those who want to keep the party going

What People Say

  • Guests rave about the location—especially its proximity to transport, the Royal Mile, and city venues
  • Staff friendliness and the stylish lobby bar get frequent praise
  • Rooms are described as clean, spacious, and quiet—ideal after a night out
  • Many highlight the comfortable beds and modern bathrooms

Areas for Improvement

  • Some guests found the hallways a bit dated compared to the sleek lobby
  • Breakfast isn’t always included and can be pricey if added separately
  • Limited views from some rooms, so request one overlooking the Royal Mile if that matters to you

The Bottom Line

If you're heading to a concert in Edinburgh, the Hilton Edinburgh Carlton delivers a stylish stay with top-notch access to venues, nightlife, and late-night bites—all without sacrificing comfort.

Liked: Very central - close to station - just easy to get around to anywhere you wanted to go.
Disliked: Works being done - banging from 9am - squeaking floor (could hear those from floor above).

Perfect hotel to stay at...

Liked: Newly renovated rooms were really spacious, clean and a pleasure to stay in.
Disliked: As all city hotels, parking was complicated. There was also building work happening. And it seems check out time is an excuse for all guests to congregate at the reception desk at the same time, perhaps this could be looked ot, or check out before breakfast?

Poor

Liked: Room would have been nice if not for the scaffolding and work men literally outside the window - they could see in and made my wife feel awkward getting ready.
Disliked: They didn’t tell us work was going on. Woke up early with men working. The lounge staff weren’t refilling the canapé parts. It’s not really acceptable to charge £200 plus for a room with no privacy unless you shut the curtains. It would have been a really nice hotel but they need to be making guests aware of the conditions especially saying that men will be working within feet of your window and can see in. It was my wife and her mam staying in the room. No tea but room had coffee. Minibar was empty. Photo attached - we would have booked a different hotel had we known.

Ideal location for exploring the...

Liked: Location was ideal for exploring Edinburgh. The room was very large but I didn't have a very good view. There were obviously very old wood floors under the carpet because they would squeak when I walked. The bathroom was great. Large walk-in shower, very hot water with good spray power. The restaurant had a small bar section which was ideal for relaxing after a long day exploring.
Disliked: Hotel is on the High Street which requires walking up 104 stairs up from the train station. Or you walk around the "block" which is about a mile. Suggest taking a taxi if towing luggage from the train station. Hotel had an elevator that accessed the Market Street Train Station level (-4) but couldn't access it going back up to the hotel. Staff said the reader didn't work...and they never answered the intercom.... Had to walk another mile just to get up to the High Street level.
