Speechless

Liked: It’s clean. Staff is greatly helpful
Disliked: 1. I arrived late like 1130 pm in the night and the entrance door is locked. There is a sign said ‘’please use the other door’’ with an arrow pointing to right but the right door is locked as well. So I thought it might be door somewhere right to the building because it’s too late and reception changes place. I walked around the property and find no door so I went back as someone who live there help me open the door. It turned out that the staff just unavailable at the reception which is ok but the unclear instruction and really bothered since I was exhausted at the time.2. No personal lighting by the bed and I have to apologize many times to my roommates for light in the room and then I decide to use my phone to light to avoid affecting my roommates’ sleep but that made me really hard to make my bed.3. No personal charger and you have to leave your personal devices on the floor to charge. 4. Room is too small to 8 bunks;5. No place to hang my clothes or towel in bathroom before shower.6. Same price range with very bad facilities compared to HI in other cities in the US

Basic, affordable, great location.

Liked: The vibe. The view of Alcatraz from the room (24) was amazing. We felt very safe. It was very clean.
Disliked: The mattress of the double bed sagged where our backs were so we didn’t sleep much at all which was a real shame. Getting down from the top bunk was a bit difficult.

Pleasant

Liked: - Good location! Can see the Golden Gate Bridge which was amazing! I felt safe in the area! - Beds were comfortable.
Disliked: - The rooms didn’t have enough plug outlets. - Breakfast was about 20 minutes late on one of the days I’ve stayed. It’d also be great to have breakfast at 07:00 as I like to get up early and to start my day.- Some of the staffs could be a bit more friendly and professional. One staff was eating her crisps infront of me when I asked a question.

Amazing location, great staff, awesome...

Liked: The history and location was cool. Had everything we needed and more
Disliked: The beds are so soft your hips sink too deep. We’re talking almost in a siting position kind of lack of support. We were there for 5 days, and by the 3rd I was getting back pains from the beds. Other than this, everything else was amazing

The view alone is worth...

Liked: The view was stunning. Walkable to Ghirardelli Square and The Wharf. The area is overall clean and relaxing. The cafe staff were friendly and helpful. Bathrooms were cleaned in the mornings. A few quiet nooks to seclude yourself like the Zen room. Large kitchen area downstairs, but some cooking areas and refrigerators not usable. Nice hiking trails right outside. Did I mention the stunning view?
Disliked: The parking lot is far from the hostel and instructions to find it is confusing while in the dark and new to area; a major concern over car safety. Staff did not inspect issues in the rooms that bothered other guests (ie - talking on phone after hours about religious views that could offend others). The room key did not open the front door during after hours; you had to wait for staff to open the door and the girl almost broke the door swinging it open forcibly. People would play the piano in the common area before quiet hours were over.

Economical & centrally located. Most...

Liked: Loved the different folks hanging out all around
Disliked: Breakfast access earlier or a grab n go option. Unfortunately I had to leave at a very early hour to catch a fishing boat.

Very nice location, good for...

Liked: The location is great. The area is very pretty and it generally feels safe. Breakfast was good. Common area was very nice. Kind and helpful staff.
Disliked: The room was very tiny. It was ok for one night, but a longer stay would have been uncomfortable. Not much privacy in the bathroom (showers). Still, among the options in San Francisco, this one was ok. Other not-so-expensive ones may look nice, but are in the areas I would not like to stay in.
