Great place, terrible food/breakfast

Liked: The location is great, with the manor house sitting in its own casually landscaped grounds. Likewise, the spa complex is lovely, with a pool, steam room, sauna, mist showers, and hot beds.
Disliked: I hated the food. The booking stated that breakfast was included, but getting a full English was an "add-on". I refused to pay extra for that out of principle, and ordered the bacon sandwich which was made with the cheapest white bread, no butter, and lifeless bacon. My wife ordered an Eggs Benedict but couldn’t even cut through the muffin—it was so hard, so she sent it back. Reception mentioned that they frequently receive complaints about the breakfast, but management never acts on them, as a result, I would not return.

Liked: The grounds & the frontage of the hotel were lovely with plenty of parking. The lady on reception was pleasant & helpful. The communal areas were well furnished & attractive. The bedding & towels were clean & there was bottled water available in the room. The bed was comfortable & once the music from the wedding at the venue had been turned off, it was quiet (except for the barking dog a couple of rooms along the corridor)
Disliked: Our room was like a cell with the window covered over - we were told it overlooked an inner courtyard - an imaginative description. The room was dusty & the throw on the bed really marked. We visited the spa for our allotted hour - the staff were surly & unhelpful, didn’t explain anything about the facilities (which were ok but smaller than expected).The breakfast was the biggest letdown - we’ve never stayed anywhere with supplements on the breakfast menu! £3 extra for American pancakes & £5 extra for a full English. The continental selection included cheap cereals, bought in pastries & stodgy sliced bread. My bacon sandwich was almost inedible, the bacon only just cooked & fatty, on the same cheap white sliced. My husband did enjoy his porridge to be fair. The coffee from the machine was undrinkable, I daren’t ask for hot chocolate for fear of the charge…

Liked: The breakfast was okay, Staff was very helpful. I had acouple of bad experiences at the bar downstairs paying for drinks because I kept getting the incorrect change back from the staff.
Disliked: The bathroom wasn't very nice in contrast with the rooms. The rooms were very comfortable.

Loved the hotel and spa.

Liked: The breakfast was delicious and the spa facilities were awesome. Loved the gowns.
Disliked: The room was very hot without any cooling. There didn't appear to be a child friendly food menu.
