Whether you’re here for a concert, art exhibit, or just to explore the city’s vibrant scene, Harlow Hotel provides a well-located, affordable base in the middle of it all.

Why Concert-goers love it

Harlow Hotel is a top pick for music fans thanks to its central location—you're minutes from big-name venues and local gems. Being just a short walk from Portland Union Station makes late-night transport options super convenient. Guests appreciate the quiet vibe despite being downtown, ideal for winding down after a high-energy show. The flexible 4:00 PM check-in and 12:00 PM checkout give you time to arrive and recover without a rush.

The central location means you’re steps from late-night eateries, food trucks, and cafés—perfect for post-concert cravings. While there’s no formal breakfast, nearby options make it easy to grab a bite after sleeping in.

Nightlife Options

Though the hotel itself doesn’t host live music, you’re surrounded by Portland’s buzzing nightlife. Bars, lounges, and music venues are all within walking distance, making it easy to keep the night going. Or, if you prefer a quieter vibe, the hotel’s on-site bar and lounge offers a cozy place to unwind with a drink.

What People Say

Guests love the friendly staff, clean rooms, and historic character of the building. Many mention the excellent location for walking to events and local attractions. The vibe is often described as charming and low-key, perfect for travelers looking to mix music and relaxation.

Areas for Improvement

This is a 2-star hotel, so don’t expect luxury extras. Some guests mention the rooms are on the smaller side, and while there’s no on-site restaurant, the neighborhood makes up for it. It’s a great base—but not a full-blown resort.

My stay at the Harlow...

Liked: The staff, the bed, and the historic character of the hotel made this stay stand out. The team at Harlow was consistently welcoming and accommodating. I interacted with the General Manager, Victoria Rose (on the overnight shift, and affiliated with the Dead Portland Society—I’m excited to book a walking tour with her), and a lovely woman whose name I regretfully forgot (maybe Veronica?), who went above and beyond by bringing a refrigerator to my room and warming my meal in the staff microwave. This is a historic hotel, so do not expect in-room amenities like a microwave, refrigerator, or coffee machine. However, my room was beautifully appointed—with two white robes, slippers, and a large walk-in shower (no tub). I stayed on the third floor, where the high ceilings gave the space an airy, elegant feel. The bed was one of the most comfortable I experienced on my entire trip. The hotel is located on a corner across from a long, multiblock park, with grassy spaces and sandy areas for bocce ball. A charming area for a stroll or just to sit and enjoy the neighborhood.I will definitely return—though not when I’m traveling with my soft-top convertible, as parking is all street-based (something to keep in mind for fellow travelers).
Disliked: As a historic property, some modern conveniences are understandably limited. Despite these minor inconveniences, I would absolutely stay here again - now that I know what to expect.

Nice room, strange hotel

Liked: Room was comfortable, good size. Bed comfortable. Nice bathroom, clean. Several restaurants within walking distance.
Disliked: All doors to hotel were locked upon arrival with no info about how to get in. I finally called phone number from listing, which rang many times before being answered. Staff person said she would meet me at door to let me in. Said it was a 'secure' building, only guests with keys can enter. At check in I asked about parking. Staff said offstreet parking, pick a spot & pay at parking kiosk or download parking app. It took a bit of back and forth conversation to understand it was street parking. She said 'street parking, offstreet parking - same thing'. I informed her they are certainly not the same. Staff also said there is a 24hr cafe on main floor next to lobby. I went onto the hotel website to look at menu, decided we'd have breakfast there next morning. Nope - no hot breakfast. Coffee & bagel or prepackaged sweet bread. And, only guests could access the 'cafe', whose exterior door had a sign to keep the door locked at all times. Really strange. Felt like an abandoned hotel. Desk & cafe staff (2 people) were cleaning rooms & bathrooms. I kept expecting Stephen King to come around the corner for his cameo appearance in this movie.

Very good

Liked: This was a cool property in a great location. The staff was very friendly and the room was extremely nice. I would definitely stay here again.
Disliked: My only complaint is the complete absence of parking. The only thing available was street parking and even though it wasn't the worst neighborhood in Portland, I don't know that I would leave anything in the car over night. If you are lucky enough to get a spot next to the building, there are cameras.
