It’s an amazing place to...
Liked: Absolutely charming old brick house. Vintage interior and an awesome host!
Disliked: Just minor things: The sometimes noisy fridge and hallway light shining through the door frame. Overall it was a nice property!

A wonderful place to stay
Liked: One of the best places I've ever stayed from start to finish. The welcome from Kellyn is genuine, heartfelt, informative, and full of passion for New York; the rooms are huge and decorated to fine detail, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom well appointed and the TV huge & with all the channels (not that I used it much!); the location is excellent - direct connections to JFK & La Guardia, two stops from Times Sq and 3 from Penn Stn - and the immediate area is both quiet and close to great bars, the gorgeous Morningside Park and the history and culture of both Harlem & Columbia University. I also wasn't expecting a free laundry service and to be woken by birdsong rather than traffic noise! I cannot overstate how much I loved staying here.
Disliked: It might not be for everyone. It's more like a home than a hotel and that should be respected. Hopefully I did!

Lovely place in good location...
Liked: The location was very good in a reasonably quiet area with shops close by and good transport links. The room was very comfortable and well designed and the staff were super friendly and helpful.
Disliked: The heating could not be adjusted and the room was quite cold in March.

Away from the crowds, but...
Liked: Nice old hotel with beautiful period furniture. Owner gave us a nice historical summary of the area, where to eat, etc. very close to the A subway, making Central Park and Times Square only minutes away. Loved it!!

Superb
Liked: Lovely historic building with original features. Huge room with massive comfy bed. The host was friendly and offered great tips for the city. The laundry service and little kitchen were a bonus. Don’t worry about breakfast- the little deli on the corner does a mean and cheap breakfast roll and Mr Lee Lee’s bakery lives up to its reputation! We loved the location near Central Park and felt safe in the neighbourhood.
Disliked: Honestly, nothing!

Disliked: the owner is more than rude, she accused us of smoking in the room and did not give us our caution money back! And now ghosting me.

Great stay, wonderful location with...
Liked: Great accommodation. Wonderful location in Harlem, and conveniently close to the subway, which is just around the corner - from there, central park is a few minutes away. Nice atmospheric interior, and big room. Facilities were great - there's a useful small kitchen, and a great bathroom. Room was cleaned/bedsheets were replaced frequently, which was nice. Instructions regarding the keys, entering/leaving, and checking out were clear and easy. Very comfortable stay!
Disliked: Although the building is generally very clean and neat, it is somewhat worn here and there (since it's an old building). I understand that a full renovation is impossibly costly and ambitious, but a few upgrades might be nice. Nevertheless, these were only details. The bed was intensely soft - it was comfortable, but, as someone used to a hard mattress, I had some back pains towards the end of the stay. Good to keep in mind, I guess, for those who can't handle a soft mattress.

More than what I expected
Liked: The hotel was situated in a typical Westside Manhattan building and the room was unique with an amazing kind of antique decor. The room was super clean and the bathroom was equipped with a bathtub and above all very spacious. The hotel is ideally located only 5mn walking distance from the metro station and it only takes 2 stops and 15 mn on the A-line to Times Square, and less than 20 mn to Penn Station. The area, a few blocks from Columbia university, is very safe and the streets are calm during the night. I would definitely recommend staying in Harlem Grand if you're visiting the city.
