Not what we were expecting…...

Liked: Size of room
Disliked: There was a terrible smell when we arrived. The smell permeated around the ground floor and dining areas. So we opted to stay in our room after a long day of travel. When I asked if there was a problem with the drains, we were told bluntly that there was a farm behind (almost attached to the hotel). In the morning the breakfast was good and luckily no strong smell. As we left, to go to the very rough car park at the side / rear ( part of a car sales lot) the smell was coming back. We presumed that is why this hotel was a good deal. I would not stay there again.

A perfect gem in the...

Liked: This is a charming hotel, not only the grounds, the building itself and the rooms but the staff also. It is a very old property but well kept and the thing that makes this place so special, I have been staying up here for a number of weeks now, is the staff. They are amazing, cannot do enough for you, engaging, funny and informative. I met one of the owners a few weeks ago who was happy to talk me through the extensive and fascinating history of the building. On top all that the food it outstanding and real value for money. The carvery is one of the best I have ever experienced and again, the staff cannot do enough for you to make you feel welcomed each time you stay. This is an absolute gem of a hotel and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
Disliked: Working from the hotel can be a slight challenge, the WiFi isnt the best but given the shape of the building, no matter how much you boost the signal it's not going to reach everywhere. A very first world problem though and most people staying are visiting the area for a holiday, not for work so its not absolutely essential and I do like to relax in the gardens when I have finished a days work anyway. Other than that no issues at all.

Liked: Friendly staff, comfortable bed, good sized breakfast.
Disliked: Bathroom door didn't shut, towel radiator was always on which made a very warm bathroom, no wi-fi in rooms even though it was advertised as being available (router was off).

Liked: It’s very characterful lovely location beds comfortable and food delicious.
Disliked: The rooms are a bit tired needs decorating throughout, plumbing is an issue in some rooms, and furniture could do with a repair. Damp spots on ceiling.

Peaceful location

Liked: Relaxing atmosphere, pleasant helpful friendly staff. The choice of restaurant food very good. Lovely location.
Disliked: Everything was good.
