Lovely room and view

Liked: Large clean and airy room and very, very comfortable, massive bed and with a great view. Lovely location. Friendly staff. Nice restaurant and bar. Ample parking. Beautiful rural setting. Large selection of breakfast items.
Disliked: One day, we had a different room service lady who only changed one of the used cups and only provided one new bottle of water (for two people). The socket beside the bed on one side made a loud humming noise when switched on, but this didn't detract from the overwhelming positives (and we just didn't use that socket).

Very nice hotel in beautiful...

Liked: The room was excellent. Spacious bedroom and bathroom. Very comfortable bed and a great walk-in shower. Nice rolltop bath although I didn't have time to use it. The breakfast was very good with a great choice of alternatives to the standard full English.
Disliked: The meal in the restaurant was a bit of a let down. My steak was overcooked and the expensive (by choice) white wine we had with our starter was poured without asking if we wanted to try it first. The waitress was very nice so I'd suggest it was a training issue rather than a lack of interest. On the second night we walked across the park into town and had a very nice meal at the Impeccable Pig which is also highly recommended.

Thoroughly enjoyed walking round both...

Liked: Beautiful hotel in a beautiful park location
Disliked: For the first time ( and we’ve stayed several times), we needed to ask for a change of room because of poor cleanliness. We recognise this was in no way a reflection on the cleaning staff as they’d had to work longer than normal following a particularly unruly wedding party the previous day and night. Although we were dismayed on seeing our room, we were very happy with the reception staff response. They offered to have the room thoroughly cleaned or move us to a different room , which we opted for, and also gave us a complimentary drink . The fire alarm went off at 4am. Long enough for us to wake up and jump out of bed, but stopped before we left the room. When we mentioned it in the morning we were told , “Oh it was just a false alarm”. It would have been good to have had an apology for a disturbed night.

A dismal, tired and faded...

Liked: The grounds are lovely.
Disliked: The hotel is badly in need of an update. The first impression is the “P” in the sign over the front door to reception is askew, in a very Fawlty Towers way. The hallways have a distinct odour of air freshener (not at all nice) that appears to be covering the smell of something far more unpleasant. Our first room had peeling wallpaper, a shower that didn’t drain, with one of the knobs to control the water broken off. It was on the lower level and was dark and smelled damp. We changed rooms the next morning to top floor and the room was a bit better. But still tired. Little things like burnt out lights in the bathroom, which has very poor lighting to start with. Permanent stains and bad scratches to the bathtub, electric space heaters for heat just add to the dismal effect of the room. The front desk and bar/restaurant staff overall were not terribly friendly, very perfunctory. The housekeeping staff were super friendly and helpful. It could be a lovely place to stay. But as it stands it is tired and not a place I would return to.

Liked: Bed was very comfortable.
Disliked: Not a lot of seating for the bar, due to the afternoon tea on offer.

Very good

Liked: Staff were great. Location was good for what we needed. Breakfast was good.
Disliked: Only one thing, personally I thought the bed was very hard so it made it an uncomfortable night
