We loved San Diego, but...

Disliked: We came from far away and called before arriving to make sure it was open for check-in. We arrived at dawn and were assured they were open 24 hours. We were outside for about 20 minutes, ringing the intercom and calling the lobby. In the end, the young sleepy security guard let us in and called the also sleepy receptionist, who could barely help us since he was more asleep than awake. They never activated one of my room keys, so I was stuck in the parking lot with my 3-year-old son because the elevator didn't open, so I had to walk to the lobby.

Liked: Breakfast was great every day.
Disliked: Trolley stop… too close, too loud and runs all the time!! Elevators were under “repair”.. didn’t know this until a day prior to arrival and never saw any work being done. Had to go through the front office and down back hallway to get to the stairs! Had NO idea how to get to the stairs unless you ask staff. Good thing g there wasn’t a fire…

Liked: Best value for your money- half the price of other hotels in the area. Great downtown location near the bay, restaurants, and is just a short drive to Balboa park. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and parking was secure. Being downtown San Diego, I thought there would be more unhoused people, but I was pleasantly surprised by how few I saw and how safe the area seemed. I definitely would recommend for families or anyone looking to enjoy Downtown San Diego without spending an arm and a leg.
Disliked: I don’t have any complaints. Being from Texas my kids thought the room was freezing cold. I think the AC was set to 62 degrees, California and Texas have a different idea of hot and cold. We were able to turn it up to 70 and all was well.
