Grier, Florence, visiting Hal and Mal's Jackson Fri, 8 May 2015
I can not say a bad thing about our stay at the Hampton Inn and Suites Jackson-Coliseum! It was clean and comfortable, and conveniently located just minutes from our destination, Hal and Mal's. Check-in was a breeze using our "Concert Hotels" confirmation, and the front desk staff was friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived, gladly giving us information on everything from dining to cab services. The lobby was smallish, but comfortable and well appointed. We stayed in a room with 2 double beds, usual furnishings, a computer desk, and a cozy chair, and free WIFI. The mattresses and pillows were comfy. The bathroom was clean and the shower had great water pressure! It is apparently an older hotel that's been refurbished, and although it was not plush, it was quite adequate. The hallway was surprisingly quiet, despite us being near a vending area and elevators. Breakfast was basic, but hey, it was free, and the coffee was really good, so no complaints there :) The breakfast lady was so sweet and accommodating, finding a box for me to carry our breakfast to our room, getting me cups with lids, napkins and utensils, and even opening the elevator door for me and pressing our floor number! The only negative is that it's not a safe pedestrian area, especially at night, but I understand that's a citywide issue, not exclusive to this location, and the hotel has a fence, security, and police presence. At no time did we feel unsafe. We used Veteran's Cab (one of the suggestions of the gracious staff) to take us to Hal and Mal's, and our driver Orlando also picked us up after the show and got us back to the hotel. Oh btw: the band we were there to see was staying at the Hampton also (hint), and we got to meet the elusive front man/brains behind the band in the lobby! Surreal! The trip was a birthday present for our son, so getting to actually meet him, chat with him, and get a picture as he stood in the lobby and drew just for my son was the best present ever, and worth every mile of the drive from SC! If we ever travel that way again, we will definitely stay at Hampton Inn And Suites Jackson-Coliseum. It is the perfect place to stay for a night while attending a show or local event!
