Liked: It was more like staying in a cozy room at a friends house than a hostel. Such a comfortable bed! And he was very communicative before I arrived.

Not a place that should...

Liked: The property was so dirty and the smell was overtaking I really could not stay there
Disliked: I couldn’t sit on the bed because the bedding smelled so bad,I couldn’t stay and had to leave the shower room was so dirty and had a foul smell

Good location, comfortable bed, scorching...

Liked: Good spot near JOG. Gordon (and dog!) is a nice bloke.

Hostel stay with warm welcome,...

Liked: Mr. Gordon is very kind and welcoming, allowing us to arrive later than the check-in time. John O Groats is a wonderful and peaceful place. Thoughful small replacement for breakfast.
Disliked: The house could have been cleaner; there was a strong, musty smell in the room, and breakfast was (understandably, due to age and health) not included, despite the booking page stating otherwise.

Excellent location and homely room

Liked: An excellent location and just s short walk to the famous signpost. This was a spur of the moment decision to visit and the host was very helpful and considerate advising me what to see and turning on the electric fire on prior to my arrival so the room was beautiful and warm. A comfortable bed and a very clean and nicely decorated room and a very reasonable price. A great walk from the lighthouse to the twin stacks with wondeful alpine like flowers, although my x 10 magnification binoculars were not powerful enough to clearly see the puffins.
Disliked: Nothing really.. You will have to share a bathroom (there are two) but given this is a hostel and given the great value for money this is not an issue.

Liked: Mr Gordon was very hospitable and friendly. He did give instructions and suggestions in advance. The place is a share home with himself and other guest.Considering his age and health he did do his best to provide a comfortable place. Everything was provided for basic needs.
Disliked: Nothing much.
