Great location and inn but...

Liked: I would love to give this property a maximum score because it was good in terms of amenities, room was comfortable and breakfast was very good.Location excellent especially if you want to hike up Cadair Idris.
Disliked: However, this is what you don’t know before booking in - there is a curfew. Yes, a curfew in a hotel and the owner argues it is for insurance purposes he needs to lock up the front door during the night. We have not been given a key. Ok, let’s say we understand but what is not normal is that the guests are not informed beforehand of this (I checked the house rules before booking and there was no mention of this), also; there is a book with guest information in the room and our host referred us to it upon arrival, but in the book it says the door will be locked at midnight. That was not the case for us, the host came over implying multiple times it might be time to go inside, and at 22:50 he actually said he’s locking up and going to sleep. In the moment we did not realise nor did we argue but afterwards thinking about it, it didn’t feel right because at the end of the day, it is a public space and we should have been allowed to go outside during the night if we needed to. Therefore, I would suggest two things- have the house rules clearly written on booking sites so your guests know what to expect, and - install an intercom/ key fob system and give each guest the choice what time they want to go to bed/ get inside.
