Only slept here for one night but room and facilities were great and very clean.

Liked: Location.

Judith W, Darlington, visiting Newcastle City Hall Fri, 16 May 2014

Stayed here 10 years ago and had a fabulous room and enjoyed it. This time round we had a very small dark room at the back of hotel with a view of a wall. Very noisy with the huge kitchen extractor fan below our room and had no sleep. The mattress dipped in the middle and the hotel looked very tired.

Disliked: Very disappointing.

Phil, Corby, visiting Utilita Arena Newcastle Fri, 20 December 2013

Overrated. Very small room. Not value for money.

Liked: Very comfy bed.
Disliked: Very small room for a double. Nowhere to sit if you wanted breakfast in your room. Small reception desk - always seemed to have too many staff. No parking facilities - had to use a pay and display public car park nearby. Breakfast was an extra and expensive. We went for a short walk to the Eldon Square shopping centre and had a lovely breakfast for less than half the price. Generally OK but wouldn't stay there again.

Overpriced and very bog standard.

Liked: The staff
Disliked: It cost me 135 for the room, 35 for the romance package that consisted of bottle of Prosecco artificial rose petal and a tiny box of chocolates and 10 late check out which in the end we didn?t need... I was so disappointed at the room for the cost, it was just a bog standard room, glorified bed and breakfast if you like. Breakfast which wasn?t included actually as we had to pay for that separately upon checkout. For a room that cost over 200 overall, I am utterly utterly disappointed... The Hilton was only 100 the same night and it included breakfast and free late checkout of upto 1 hour. They also informed us they would dress our room up accordingly as I explained why we were coming and providing I left a good review they would accommodate my requests... Grey street was more quirky and right up my street so I went with it and I so wish I hadn?t... the only thing I can say was brilliant was the staff. Proposing to my boyfriend was amazing but having to tell him how much I paid for the room that even he said was shocking ruffled a few feathers. We will not be back

Location location location - and...

Liked: Location is amazing, quirky room, friendly and efficient reception and housekeeping. They produced a robe and slippers, extra bedding, water, toiletries ... early check in and late check out is very reasonably priced. I travelled with my poodle and they could not have been more accommodating. You get a neat little bowl with a packet of dog food in your room plus a special 'do not disturb, dog in room' notice for your door. There's a real North East warmth here staff are chatty, interested in you, and make a great team. I got an excellent rate too - overall delighted - would recommend and will certainly return
Disliked: The lighting was a bit minimal with not much flexibility. Bedside x2 and a desk light with a few spot lights on the very high ceiling - so nothing between no light and very low light. I stayed in February and spent some time actually in the room rather than out and about so would have appreciated a more warming atmosphere. A few tweaks to the lighting would show the room to best effect and brighten it up a bit. The room itself was great though.

Exceptional

Liked: Central location, easy to find and perfect for everything we needed. Massive bed, really comfortable and decent size room for one night
Disliked: It was really loud when we got in though this wasn?t particularly late and we expected it given the location and previous reviews
