Disappointing

AMAZING staff, centrally located hotel,...

Liked: The staff is amazing...They are TOP NOTCH. Did everything they could to make my stay satisfactory. I wasn't happy with the rooms and they quickly did what they could to rectify whatever issues there was. When corresponding via email, they are quick and responsive. I really appreciated the staff during my stay. LOVE the location of the hotel, centrally located, close to train station, waterfront, palace, shopping, etc.
Disliked: After asked to move rooms, the second room was worse: very small, dark and dingy; the 3rd room was run down: broken chandelier, didn't pass dust test, empty conditioner dispenser/empty tissue box; However, they finally gave me a very good, clean "updated" room. The breakfast buffet was ok, I dislike that I repetitively got room temp cappuccinos from the wait staff and had to walk around asking for help on more than one occasion. I dislike that this is what its like at 5-star hotels in general; unless you're paying for super expensive suites, they don't feel the need to update/have pristinely clean lower priced room as they rely on their name/status. If a hotel is to be labeled as 5-star ALL rooms should be up-to-standard and represent the caliber of the star status and name. I've stayed at 5-star hotels all over the world and this seems to be the norm, which is sad for the prices you're paying. I never run into these issues at 3-star hotels, they're always super clean and strive for excellence.

Liked: Excellent location, authentic old hotel and luxurious rooms
Disliked: Deluxe rooms can be located just on top of the night-club / bar which can be super noisy, especially in the weekend. Expect to run into towel trolleys that are simply standing in the hallway

Disappointing not so Grand Hotel

Liked: The location is excellent. The cleaning staff very pleasant. Thats where the good review ends unfortunately.
Disliked: Staff generally disinterested and mediocre. The room was 3 star at best, the bathroom being the most hazardous I have ever been in, I slipped getting out of the shower. No apologies, I asked for a mat and step which they then provided, but the damage was done to my back. No water in the room, asked, they said the tap water was fine to drink.Bed extremely soft, asked for a board which was provided the following night.Filthy carpets in passages to the room.Breakfast chaotic, choices were fairly decent however.This is not a 5 star hotel, but has a 5 star location.
