Liked: Reception area is quite 'grand'.Value for money at £103 dinner,bed and breakfast for 2.Plenty of hot water.
Disliked: We had one night in the (ex)Grand Hotel in Blackpool, our first visit to the town. Amazing how photos can lead you on! Probably our only trip there, both to Blackpool and the (ex)Grand.Firstly Blackpool appears a failing resort. Very surprised it beat Bognor in the Which report on worst seaside resorts.Much of the lower promenade is fenced off as it is unsafe.The (ex)Grand Hotel felt shabby from first impressions. The main revolving door is not working, so you are directed to a side door that's approach is filthy.It is not much better if you enter via the car park (lack of signage, signifying it is the hotel car park), and the outside area unkempt.Hardly any staff about. Sticky floor in front of bar, not because of being busy...there was only one other couple in there.Basic dinner buffet; Maggies Tomato soup, chicken curry with a strange burnt taste or slithers of gammon on half a Yorkshire pudding or breaded fish gougons (freshly caught in the freezer). Deserts were a choice of cakes!Room okay except for very creaky wooden base to bed and bath showing signs of age. Someone smoked in the coridor late at night and the stink came under the 1970s door. Corridor carpets are in need of a hoover. A discarded fag-end did disappear from the lift overnight but all the shiny surfaces need polishing.I realise big hotels are struggling and this one had all the symptoms.Hopefully they will take this all as constructive criticism to improve for future guests.

Liked: Great stay that we spontaneously booked another night. Affordable and beautiful view.

Basic room, ok for 1...

Liked: Location was good for what we needed. Nice walk to north pier and a few bars. Staff were nice at check in and in the bar in the evening. Easy to park (it was a Sunday afternoon).
Disliked: We booked because it had a swimming pool. I looked on website and booking for opening times but couldn't find anything (apologies if I missed it). We arrived around 4pm and found out the pool shuts at 3pm on Sundays which was disappointing but we went out instead. Booked a family which said double bed? Bunk beds and 2 sofa beds. There were no sofa beds in our room. Again, not the end of the world but not as advertised. We didn't raise this as only there 1 night. Bathroom could have been cleaner, no attention to detail. We weren't expecting luxury but it could have been a much nicer stay for the price
