Really underwhelming stay

Liked: Beautiful location and the room was lovely. Spice restaurant was fantastic, great ambience, great food and service. We wish we had dined here both nights
Disliked: The service really wasn’t at the right level for the standard of the property and the price point. I even responded to the hotel survey after our stay explaining some of the issues and our disappointment and never received a response. It felt very much like the staff didn’t care

Fantastic place if you would...

Liked: I especially enjoyed peace and quietness around the property. Nature around is amazing.Facilities are fantastic especially in spa suites.
Disliked: Bathroom was quite old and will need refurbishment.Bar should be complimentary for this price.

Disliked: The restaurants were too fine dinning for me , I have bland taste so had to drive into town to buy fish and chipsOther hotels I stay at have the spa with no additional cost so I was put off when I asked if there was a charge for using the facilities The customer car park had lots of pot holes when we arrived on Wednesday that said we did see someone filling them in on Thursday afternoon

Liked: From the moment we arrived at the Gilpin Hotel, we knew we were in for something special but we never could have anticipated just how incredible our stay would be.A huge thank you to Emma at reception for the warmest of welcomes and for the welcome call just before we arrived, to Rob for looking after us so attentively, and to Tom, the Maltese manager, whose hospitality was second to none. We were staying there because we were doing the Ultra Challenge, and the entire team made sure we were not only looked after but truly pampered. Nothing was too much trouble, and they made us feel genuinely special throughout our time there.We also had the pleasure of dining at Gilpin Spice, and the food was absolutely outstanding a real highlight of the trip. Every dish was packed with flavour and beautifully presented; a true culinary treat that we won’t soon forget.The spa facilities were just the cherry on top, a perfect place to unwind and recover after the challenge.We honestly couldn’t have asked for more. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making our stay so memorable. We would not hesitate for a second to recommend the Gilpin Hotel and all of its incredible staff. We can’t wait to return.
