Francis Marion Hotel

Very quaint and within walking distance to Charleston Music Hall and restaurants. Staff was excellent.

Liked: Clean.
Disliked: Small room.

The location is great - close to shopping, theaters, and great restaurants. It's a beautiful hotel and the staff could not be more friendly. I would recommend you go to one of the surrounding restaurants for a nice dinner rather than the one in the hotel but, other than that, this is a great place to stay while in Charleston.

Liked: It's beautiful and the view from our room was perfect.
Disliked: The restaurant food at the Swamp Fox was so so, but the waitress was great. The bathroom is really tiny, but it's an old hotel and I would rather they kept close to the old decor than wreck the rooms by modernizing them.

Great location for walking King Street shops. Great having a Starbucks in the building. Parking was convenient ( Charleston Parking Garage ) and was easy to locate.

My wife died before our...

Liked: My wife planned a trip for us, but she died before our planned travel dates. Even though it was difficult, I honored her plans and went alone. I was not used to traveling alone, and the hotel staff understood my deep grief and took care of me as if they were my family. The concierge, the front desk, and the restaurant staff were very nice to me. The housekeeper who did my turn-down service in the afternoon became my family. They all helped me through the most difficult time in my life. The staff working in the downstairs spa also listened to my story about my wife and were very kind. They all helped make my trip one of the most memorable.

Lovely hotel in great location

Liked: Location was great, our room was big and comfortable with incredible views, loved the turn down service and overall vibe of the hotel
Disliked: Bathroom was a bit small. Also we were told it was more expensive to self park than it was to use the valet service but the valet service wasn’t very good, so it was a bit difficult with the car

Historical Charm & Comfort

Liked: The hotel itself was absolutely beautiful, filled with historic charm and elegant details that gave it a unique character. One added convenience was the Starbucks right next to the lobby, which made grabbing a morning coffee easy before heading out.Although the room was on the smaller side, it was functional and made smart use of space. The beds were very comfortable, and we slept well overall. We did notice a bit of hallway noise at times, so we’d recommend using a white noise app just in case, but the hotel was generally quiet.The location couldn’t have been better. From the hotel, we were able to branch out in all directions and explore everything Charleston has to offer. Whether walking to historic landmarks, dining spots, or shops, everything felt wonderfully accessible. Wonderful staff, very helpful. All in all, this was a lovely and memorable stay in a truly special place.
