Exceptional

Very comfortable and enjoyable stay...

Liked: Location good. Staff were excellent - very friendly and helpful. Breakfast very good. Lovely walks in the grounds and beyond and particularly liked the giant garden chess set!
Disliked: The internal decor and furnishings were a little tired in places and in need of some upgrading and tlc.

Disappointed with our room

Liked: Breakfast was excellent, plenty of food and hot. Staff were very friendly
Disliked: The room was very tired and the water pressure was very low, so the shower was not great. The lighting was also poor, with no direct lights for shaving and make up.

A building with some charm...

Liked: The staff, the food, the grounds.
Disliked: The decor was in dire need of attention. Room 16, obligingly found for me, had a wet room which did not drain from the shower very well so making most of the room wet for the rest of the day.

Disappointing.

Liked: Staff were friendly and helpful
Disliked: Room was tired in desperate need of an update. Grubby carpets, tired furniture and ancient bathroom.

A dreadful experience .

Liked: Very little to like
Disliked: The room was in an appalling state. There were holes in the curtains. Only one of the curtains would close properly. The window was stuck open and couldn't be closed (clearly a previous occupant had tried and failed to close the window because part of the window frame had been damaged).The carpet was creased in several places and presented a real trip hazard. The hotel is NOT a four star hotel. It has been badly represented on the booking.com and hotel websites. We and our friends plan to contact the local authority to request an urgent inspection.

Lovely place for a four...

Liked: The food was really good, the staff were all excellent and nothing was too much trouble.
Disliked: The four poster bed was grand looking but only a double, could be a king size.
