Extended Stay America Select Suites - Grand Rapids - Kentwood

After reading the reviews I was a bit nervous about staying here. People were saying it was noisy, dirty, etc. - not the case. Room was very clean and quiet on the 3rd floor. Hallway and elevator had a strong smell but it wasn't in the room. There weren't many TV channels but it was fine since we only stayed for a night. Good room for a cheap price.

Very nice stay. Room was clean and we were very satisfied. Staff was very pleasant. We didn't think the beds were too comfy, but they were manageable.

Liked: Loved the kitchen.

Disliked: The desk attendant tried to charge me 100 dollar deposit that was not mentioned at all at time of booking it online so I refused and asked for refund but he did get it to where I didn't have to pay it but he also made me feel like he was gonna specifically watch me and my room on camera and will try to kick me out over any little thing. He didn't say it but it was a whole vibe I felt after the deposit issue

Disliked: Reserved rooms for 5 people, when we arrived to check in they told us they did not have the type of rooms I reserved. The rooms they had available could only fit 4 people. I booked this reservation a couples of weeks in advance and it had been confirmed, I also had noted the number of people in each room. The staff did not make an effort to call or e-mail to notify us so that we could make other arrangements. They also offered no help in trying to find a solution. No roll-up beds, no suggestion or call to another hotel in their chain. We were left scrambling to find another room. Not to mention the additional cost of last minute hotel rooms. Overall terrible experience with booking and this hotel.

Rooms Aren't as Pictured

Liked: Room has refrigerator.
Disliked: The room was noticablly smaller than the one advertised in photos. There weren't any plates, cups or silverware in the "kitchen." The bath tub and walls were stained, faucet was rusted and molding, carpet was stained in several areas, cabinets and furniture are worn out with broken/missing pieces.

Nice quiet hotel.

Liked: Breakfast was okay. Bed was comfortable. Room was quiet. Wifi was good.
Disliked: Someone left one of the luggage caddies with a small dresser on it out in the parking lot. I notified a staff member, but the front desk was shut down and the caddie sat outside over night. In the morning, I made mention of it to the front desk. The receptionist said others had told her about it, but she was short staffed and couldn't retrieve it herself. Eventually someone did return it to the lobby later that day, but it left me with a sour impression that it occurred and how it was (eventually) handled.
