Liked: The manager found a place to store our bicycles in the hostel. That was very convenientThe sanitary was clean. And the kitchen was ok
Disliked: The room was very sparsely furnished. A small table should be very handy.

Liked: Nothing I did not like anything I did not even get to stay the man at the front desk was rude
Disliked: Men at the front desk was rude verbally abusive judgmental and just downright disrespectful

Liked: Extremely Disrespectful and Unsafe Experience – Avoid This Place
Disliked: I had one of the worst travel experiences of my life at The European Hostel. I booked a 10-night stay through Booking.com, but when I arrived, the owner refused to honor my reservation because I’m over 40 years old. He claimed guests my age cannot stay that long—a policy that was never listed on the Booking page.He was aggressive, dismissive, and made it clear he would not refund me, even though I had already paid. This happened at 10 PM, and he seemed unconcerned that I would be left on the streets in a dangerous neighborhood. Only after pressuring him did he suddenly “allow” me to stay—on the outrageous condition that I would be placed on a blacklist of hostels in San Francisco. I was treated like a criminal for absolutely no reason.This behavior was discriminatory, unprofessional, and threatening. No one should be subjected to this kind of treatment, especially when traveling alone and relying on a confirmed reservation.I’ve been a loyal Booking.com user for years, and I’m shocked this property is still listed. Booking should seriously reconsider working with a place that mistreats its guests so openly.

Liked: Close to everything in the city center. The staff was very gentle and understood my situation of travel and very well accommodated me. Thanks for the excellent service.
Disliked: Just a little bit more cleaning in the bathroom, but everything else was all fine.

Liked: I recently stayed at the hostel and had a situation where one of the guests in my shared room (named Ridgway) was smoking illegal substances inside the room, which made other guests uncomfortable. We reported the issue to the front desk, and although a room change wasn’t immediately available, the staff acted promptly by warning the individual and reminding him of the house rules.Unfortunately, the same guest repeated the behavior the next night. This time, other guests and I decided to record evidence to help the management take proper action. We shared the video with the front desk manager, Nick, who responded immediately. He personally went to the room, confirmed the violation, and respectfully asked the guest to leave the property for failing to follow the rules and disturbing others. Concerned for the guest’s condition, Nick even contacted medical assistance to ensure he received proper care.After the situation was resolved, Nick thoroughly cleaned the room himself and assured us that such incidents would be handled more firmly in the future. He also personally apologized for the inconvenience and handled everything calmly, respectfully, and professionally.This experience showed me that the management here genuinely cares about the comfort and safety of their guests. Thank you to Nick and the staff for handling a difficult situation so responsibly.

Great value if not a...

Liked: Anything for this price is pretty great. Front of house staff are super friendly and attentive. The mattress is decent and the linen clean. The shower is brilliantly hot, and the bathrooms cleaned down with bleach regularly. If you can catch one immediately afterwards, it feels very clean. If you don’t, it can feel a bit ick.
Disliked: Some poor souls appear to live full time in the dorm rooms, so expect some intrusive / bold behaviour (making loud phone calls from bed early morning / washing undergarments in sinks), and some strange smells. The bunks are creaky and squeezed into the dorm, so expect to be sleeping in v close proximity to your neighbour. Bring ear plugs.
