Disappointing - 2 out of 5

MR, Pacific Mon, 15 October 2012

I was disappointed in this hotel - not good value for the money. The room was depressing; the bathroom was tiny; the staff was not helpful - I asked about spare bedding and they were unsure where it was located. The internet is an additional cost. The parking lot is confusing, and no one explains how to use the card. The whole experience was not good.

Liked: Elevator is fast.
Disliked: Older furnishings; staff not helpful.

Liked: It was perfect for our stay. A central location within walking distance to The Middle of the Map Fest. Plenty of room (3 big beds) for my family to sleep comfortably. Great breakfast in the morning with lots of variety!
Disliked: A little pricey.

Great place for a mid...

Liked: When we check in or out I try to wait for a lady named Lois she brightens our afternoons or mornings. We had been coming for Chiefs games and wanted to swim but crowded on weekends. She suggested coming midweek, so we coupled swimming with the parade and spent 2 wonderful days in your motel. Thanks for the suggestion Lois.

Liked: We had a lot of fun at the embassy. The only issue was parking but that is to be expected with the holiday but the hotel staff even took care of that for us so I will be going back

Exceptional

Liked: The staff was very friendly. We took advantage of the breakfast and it was amazing! Pancakes and omelets made to order by friendly smiling people at the crack of dawn. The room was larger than expected with a separate living room/kitchen area with a second television. We will definitely be staying here when we return this summer.
Disliked: I was surprised with a fee to park the car in the garage. I have never had to pay a parking fee at any other hotel before and definitely didn't expect to pay one here. We only stayed one night so I believe it was $25 but for someone staying multiple days that could add up quickly.

Filthiest hotel I have ever...

Liked: Great location! Located directly across the street from the Country Club Plaza. Staff was friendly and the check in and check out process was easy.
Disliked: This hotel is in need of some major cleaning and general maintenance. Our room was one of the filthiest hotel rooms that I have ever stayed in. Some areas of the room (including phone, lamps, behind furniture) appear to have never been cleaned. We stayed during a very cold weekend and our windows leaked so bad that ice formed all along the inside of the window, making the curtains freeze and stick to the window. Mold growth due to the moisture was apparent throughout the entire room, and instead of remediating the problem, they just try and cover it up with paint. The bathtub leaked non-stop, which also created mold problems within the bathroom. Wallpaper was peeing off the wall and exposed mold growth behind the wallpaper. The tub and sink were both slow to drain and toilet had almost no water pressure to flush. I also had problems with hot water from time to time. If we took a shower in the mornings there was almost no hot water, but it did heat up a little more in the evenings. My biggest complaint is the HVAC system in the rooms. It rattled so loud when the heat would come on, it would sound like a freight train barreling through your room. It woke me up about every 5-10 minutes at night that I ended up having to turn it completely off so that I could sleep for a couple hours. Breakfast was just okay, and even though the breakfast staff was friendly, their main focus was to encourage guests to write good reviews about the breakfast in order to bury the bad reviews circulating about the hotel. Breakfast staff clearly receives incentives from the hotel in exchange for the reviews they receive about their breakfast service. Bar staff was friendly, however, once free happy hour started they ignored their paying guests sitting at the bar. We did not participate in free happy hour along with a few others and we were not served another drink until happy hour ended. I even witnessed guests reach over the bar and pour their own drinks.
