We had a great trip...

Liked: Everyone we encountered at the hotel was kind, courteous and extremely professional. Great value for the money. We enjoyed San Juan and will be back. I would not hesitate to stay at the El Colonial again.

Very good

Liked: The hotel is reasonably priced, clean, and centrally located. It was surprisingly very quiet.
Disliked: I wouldn’t recommend booking an interior room. They don’t have windows and it feels like you’re in a dungeon.Also, it’s obvious that they water down the hard liquor.

Great location! Beautiful building, comfortable...

Liked: The building is beautiful and in great condition. The rooms are sufficient with high ceilings and strong AC. Beds are comfortable. The open bar in the lobby is the central meeting point.
Disliked: Just know what to expect. Older building and lots of stairs. No complaints here

Good

Liked: Perfect location, super friendly and helpful staff. The old building has a nice vibe and the rooftop lets you know where you are: right in the middle of everything.
Disliked: Room 401 is right below the AC ventilators. You'll need earplugs if you stay there. It has windows and a nice view, though.

Want to love it but...

Liked: Staff was very attentive, free drinks were good , cool building, nice roof top staying in old San Juan.
Disliked: Noisiest hotel room l I have ever stayed in due to next door restaurant / bar until 12:30 am and general street noise Unless you get rooms 1 - 6 away from San Francisco, I would NOT stay here and certainly not at these prices. Maybe midweek could be better.
