The Spotlight on Edinburgh Holyrood Hotel

Elegant Comfort Steps from Edinburgh’s Historic Heart

Modern yet classic, the Edinburgh Holyrood Hotel blends upscale comfort with historic charm, just a stone’s throw from Holyrood Park and a short walk to many of Edinburgh’s most iconic music venues and landmarks. With spacious rooms, a full-service spa, and an award-winning restaurant, this four-star hotel offers a relaxing retreat in the heart of the city—ideal for concert-goers who want to experience the buzz without compromising on comfort.

Each room includes a marble bathroom, satellite TV, tea and coffee facilities, and complimentary mineral water. The hotel’s Health and Wellbeing Club features a gym, sauna, and indoor pool, perfect for unwinding after a high-energy night out.

Why Concert-goers love it

Location is key, and the Edinburgh Holyrood Hotel delivers—just a 15-minute stroll from bustling Princes Street and close to several of the city’s most popular live music venues. After the encore, return to a peaceful setting near Holyrood Park, away from the late-night noise of city center bars. Flexible check-in from 15:00 and a generous check-out time of 12:00 mean you won’t feel rushed the morning after.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a central, stylish base
  • Solo travelers catching a must-see gig
  • Couples making a weekend of music and sightseeing
  • Fans who value a restful night after the show
  • Budget-conscious travelers seeking value without sacrificing quality

Food and Drink Options

The on-site Surf & Turf Restaurant serves locally sourced meat and fish dishes in a relaxed and elegant setting. While there’s no official late-night dining, the central location means you’re never far from pubs and eateries open late. Breakfast is available after a long night, and in-room tea and coffee make early mornings easier.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel itself favors tranquility over noise, you’ll find plenty of nightlife nearby—from cozy Scottish pubs to modern cocktail lounges. Many of Edinburgh’s most popular live music spots and bars are within walking distance or a quick taxi ride away.

What People Say

Guests rave about the spacious rooms, spotless bathrooms, and excellent location. Many highlight the professional, friendly staff and the restful atmosphere after a busy day (or night) in the city. The spa and pool are often mentioned as unexpected perks for a city-center hotel.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests note that while the hotel is close to action, it’s not right in the center—something to keep in mind if you prefer to be in the thick of things. A few travelers have mentioned that the decor is more classic than trendy, which may not appeal to those looking for ultra-modern design.

The Bottom Line

With its central-yet-quiet location, spacious rooms, and wellness facilities, the Edinburgh Holyrood Hotel is a standout choice for concert-goers wanting the best of both energy and ease.

Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

Disappointing for the cost and...

Liked: 3rd time we have stayed here as the location is great for Edinburgh. Easy access to the town, castle etc by foot or a cheap Uber/Taxi ride.
Disliked: 3rd time we have stayed and it will be our last. Check-in was quick, and the information regarding breakfast was incorrect. We had booked a Junior Suite and were told we would be using the members' lounge for breakfast, and if we wanted to eat in the main area, we would be charged £5 each extra. The room was nice and bright, plenty of space and came with most mod cons you would expect. The large shower in the bathroom flooded the floor when used due to the drain not emptying quickly enough for the flow. Members lounge offered complimentary drinks and snacks in the afternoon which is a nice touch, and there was an area to sit out in the sun.1st night an alarm went off in our room at 1am. Night manager cam to check but did not know what it was and nor did those at the end of the phone. Alarm taken out of socket but kept going. In the end, the manager took the fuse out of the main board and it stopped (1.45am). Apparently, it was a gas detector but no other rooms had gone off. IN the end we opened all the windows and went back to sleep (hoping to wake up in the morning). We mentioned this to reception and they said not to worry someone would have a look. When we checked out on the third day no one had looked or even replaced the switch back in the wall.Breakfast on day 1 was taken in the members' lounge at 09,45 (breakfast finishes at 10.30). Greeted by dirty tables full of plates etc and a buffet (table counter) we minmul dried up bits of bread etc. No milk for cereal, no fresh fruit replaced, no scrambled eggs (was eventually replaced but more liquid than egg), lukewarm sausages (burnt on one side) and bacon that was cold and dried out. Requested brown sauce and was told that they did not have any. This breakfast room is meant to be for members of Marriott but to be honest it was a disgrace and no one seemed bothered when questioned at reception. When questioned, they said we could eat in the main restaurant at no extra cost as we were in a suite!!
