Edinburgh Gallery Bed & Breakfast offers accommodations with a relaxed friendly atmosphere in the heart of Hobart. Guests enjoy free continental breakfast and enjoy easy walking access to Hobart's attractions. The property is a grand Edwardian/Federation house built in 1908 and is full of retro furnishings. It has spacious rooms some with private bathrooms and some with shared bathroom facilities. Throughout the building there are high ceilings sweeping staircases and old world charm. Each room is individually decorated in a distinctive hip-heritage style and all rooms have a television bar fridge and tea and coffee making facilities. The breakfast room has an adjoining cafe and is available throughout the day and night and is well stocked with a range of cereals and breads (including gluten free) as well as fresh jams honey and peanut butter from the local farmer's market. The guest lounge has television with DVD player and a wide range of DVDs on hand. Free WiFi and free parking are available. Paintings and artifacts are on display throughout the house. Nearby attractions include Salamanca Place and Market Constitution Dock and Battery Point the waterfront art and craft galleries and restaurants and the Museum and Art Gallery. You can enjoy day trips to Port Arthur Historic Richmond and Bruny Island.

Mixed bag

Liked: Friendly host, lots of spreads and breads for breakfast and snacks available throughout the day, nice homey feel, good heating in bedroom
Disliked: Smoke in my room from smokers outside, ancient bathroom fittings, terrible traffic noise, generators whining outside my window, poor lighting in downstairs bedrooms

Affordable friendly place on perimeter...

Liked: Welcoming, warm, accessible. Friendly meeting others over breakfast. Also close to great Nepalese dumplings pub, The ChowkLovely view of the mountain from the kitchen

Unbearable road noise

Liked: Nothing - we ended up paying for another hotel because of unbearable road noise.
Disliked: The 'hotel' building is an old, unrenovated, non isolated house that is situated on a big road - the traffic noise is horrid. When we confronted the owner about it, he called us villagers, although we stayed in hotels and hostels in Barcelona, Delhi, Paris, Munich, Prague and haven't had this problem before. It wasn't even that cheap - 700 for 5 nights.

Liked: Close enough to town for an easy stroll but not noisy. Super interesting property with a homely vibe. John makes every guest feel so welcome and comfortable, with fresh coffee to start the day and an invitation for late night snacks from a well stocked kitchen.

Exceptional

Liked: It was great there. Free parking is so helpful around the city of Hobart. We couldn't meet the owner but he left us a note of how to check-in so nothing to worry about. The decoration of accommodation is unique and antique. The shared bathroom was clean. Plenty of breakfast choices are accessible anytime during the stay. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
Disliked: The entrance is locked at 10pm apparently.
