The Spotlight on Economy Inn

Affordable Comfort Near Portland’s Best Live Music

Modern convenience meets retro charm at the Economy Inn, a no-frills motel located just north of downtown Portland. Originally built in 1954, this 1-star stay offers free WiFi, free private parking, and family-friendly rooms just a short drive from the city’s top music venues and nightlife hubs.
With a location only 1.9 miles from the Moda Center and under 2.5 miles from the Oregon Convention Center and Portland Union Station, it’s a smart choice for concert-goers looking to stay close without spending big.

Why Concert-goers love it

Location is everything, and Economy Inn delivers. You’ll be within a quick rideshare or public transit trip of Portland’s biggest venues, including the Moda Center and Oregon Convention Center. After the show, come back to a quiet neighborhood setting—perfect for winding down. The free private parking is a major bonus if you’re driving in, and the simple check-in at 3:00 PM gives you time to settle in before heading out.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for affordable digs close to the action
  • Solo travelers attending a can't-miss show
  • Couples after a no-fuss weekend near Portland’s music scene
  • Fans needing a quiet place to recover post-concert
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who value location over luxury

Food and Drink Options

While there’s no on-site dining, you’re in a great spot to explore Portland’s food scene. Popular late-night eats and breakfast spots are within a short drive or walk. Whether you’re craving a burger at midnight or need recovery pancakes the next morning, you’ll find plenty of options nearby. Just note there’s no 24/7 room service here—so plan to eat out.

Nightlife Options

You’re in Portland, so nightlife is never far. A quick ride gets you to downtown bars, lounges, and even live music clubs if you want to keep the night going. While the hotel itself doesn’t offer an on-site bar or entertainment, it serves well as a calm home base after your night out.

What People Say

Guests love the value for money and easy access to major venues. Reviews highlight the clean rooms, friendly staff, and ample free parking. While it’s a basic stay, many note it’s exactly what they needed for a quick concert trip without the downtown price tag.

Areas for Improvement

This is a budget motel, so don’t expect high-end amenities. There's no breakfast, no gym, and decor is a little dated—think more functional than fashionable. Some guests mention thin walls, so light sleepers might want earplugs just in case.

The Bottom Line

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly, no-frills stay close to Portland’s concert venues, the Economy Inn checks all the right boxes.

Liked: I booked the room online just a few minutes before arriving, and requested a ground-floor room. They had my room ready immediately when I arrived. The staffer was pleasant and helpful, and the room was clean, more spacious than I expected, and comfortable.

Only to sleep one or...

Liked: The location is good
Disliked: The carpet I believe that because it is old has a bad full and leaves the room with a musty smell, the bathroom in addition to being extremely small has no exhaust fan and has a very bad smell all the time. The sheets had dirt and burned that looked like they were from cigarettes. The refrigerator was dirty and there were leftovers from the previous guest’s food.

Liked: Wifi was fast and free. The guy was nice. The area wasn’t bad at all
Disliked: It’s a clean room, but paying for a really cheap room isn’t getting you a 5 star hotel. Little cosmetic issues like a scratched up dresser or not great looking caulking on a spot in the bathroom were present, but you know what you’re getting and for the price point I’d recommend this place over any other in the city.
