The Spotlight on Econo Lodge Inn & Suites Downtown

Affordable Comfort Steps from Toronto’s Music Scene

Simple, convenient, and right in the heart of downtown Toronto, the Econo Lodge Inn & Suites Downtown offers unbeatable value for music lovers looking to stay close to the action. Just under 2 miles from top attractions like the CN Tower and walking distance to the University of Toronto and the Hockey Hall of Fame, this pet-friendly hotel combines a central location with essential comforts like free Wi-Fi and complimentary continental breakfast.

Why Concert-goers love it

Whether you’re heading to a show at Massey Hall, Meridian Hall, or another downtown venue, you’ll appreciate the walkable location and easy access to public transit. The hotel offers a quiet atmosphere that’s perfect for winding down after a high-energy night. Late-night arrivals are no problem with a flexible 2:00 PM check-in, and although check-out is at 11:00 AM, it gives just enough time to sleep in a bit after a late show.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends who want a budget-friendly, central base
  • Solo travelers chasing a dream concert
  • Couples on a music-filled weekend escape
  • Fans who want peace and quiet after the encore
  • Budget-conscious music lovers looking to save for merch and drinks

Food and Drink Options

While there's no on-site restaurant, the complimentary continental breakfast is a perk worth waking up for—even after a late night. The surrounding neighborhood is packed with gourmet restaurants and casual eateries, many within a short walk. Late-night bites and coffee shops are easy to find nearby, and food delivery apps are widely used in the area.

Nightlife Options

Though the hotel itself is low-key, you’re just minutes from lively bars, lounges, and live music hotspots throughout downtown Toronto. Whether you’re looking for a post-show cocktail, a DJ set, or a quiet nightcap, there’s something for every vibe within walking distance.

What People Say

Guests often highlight the excellent location and great value for the price. Many appreciate how close the hotel is to public transportation and major attractions. Reviewers also mention the clean rooms and helpful staff, especially for those just needing a place to crash between concerts and sightseeing.

Areas for Improvement

Some rooms are on the smaller side, and the building is older, so expect a bit of wear and tear. There’s no elevator, which may be inconvenient if you’re carrying a lot of gear. But if you’re here for the music, you’ll likely overlook the basics in favor of the price and location.

The Bottom Line

If you're heading to a concert in downtown Toronto and want a clean, affordable, and centrally located place to stay, Econo Lodge Inn & Suites Downtown hits all the right notes.

Disliked: Ask for a smoking room when I booked on phone and when I got there they said I didn't have a smoking room so they gave us another room for more money. I was quoted $104 plus tax and the room we had was $145 - not happy about the price.

This hotel is a nightmare. There is no elevator (we were on the 3rd floor) and no air conditioning in the hallways (the days we stayed in Toronto it was nearly 100 degrees). We had no tissues in our room and when we asked at the front desk they came back with 4 tissues and said they did not have any boxes of tissues. We found out from some locals that the area is dodgy - no surprise, looking around at the people wandering the streets. We felt very unsafe the second we stepped out of the car. Which brings me to my last comment - they have no parking and told us to park down at the Ramada, which we did - we weren't taking any chances leaving our car on the street during the day, let alone at night.

Disliked: Don't stay at this place - complete nightmare.

Liked: The location is fine, close to the Yonge street which has restaurants, banks and a mall.
Disliked: The breakfast is very basic. The room had a tiny window that can't be opened. The room was extremely dark. They charged 100 CAD deposit that was not mentioned in the description.

value for money hotel to...

Liked: please note that there is no lift in this establishment, so get ready to carry your suitcases with your hands -comfortable bed and desk for working - high-speed internet connection -spacious room -clean fridge is available to store your food -strategic location -Tim Hortons just across the street -2 nearby supermarkets with hot and cold meals and fresh produces -nearby park to hang-out -1 block away to the streetcar (506 at carlton st) -not too crowded and not too noise streets -3 blocks away to the subway station (College) -walking distance to the downtown area and st Lawrence market-union station area -across the street from fast food restaurant Harvey and a convenience shop -various churches are within walking distance when they are back open
Disliked: a shower with stronger pressure will be much appreciated with dismissing the breakfast and tea facilities due to covid-19 pandemic, a microwave and an electric kettle inside the room will be much appreciated -without those, I had to eat my take out meals cold and drink from plastic bottled mineral waters, which are bad for the environment
