It’s gone really downhill -...
Liked: A hotel with such potential that’s being run into the ground sadly.
Disliked: The whole building is in a state of disrepair. Costs are being cut everywhere (only half a mushroom and half a tomato in the £18 English breakfast?!) you now have to pay separately for the spa and even the outdoor pool is £15 per person per session (so a one night stay would be two session is you wanted to swim in the evening and the morning). The firedoor to our room didn’t shut properly, the lift was out of service, there was no drinking water in the spa. The bath tap was faulty, the coffee machine didn’t work in our room, the list goes on…This used to be our favourite hotel and it’s so sad to see it being run like this. The grounds are falling apart too where they aren’t spending money on maintaining it.

It was ok, if I...
Liked: I stay there a lot but I found on this stay the food was not the usual high standard. It is usually very special there but this time it was just ordinary.I didn't like the fact that the outdoor pool wasn't for use for residents unless you booked and paid and then only available early morning the next day, that is usually the main reason I like to stay there and that area also tends to be nice and clean. The spa is suffering from the poor cleaning standard and the changing rooms desperately need refurbishment as do the main toilets in the manor house. The staff as still lovely though some of the regulars weren't there when I stayed this time
Disliked: Cleanliness and state of repair of spa changing areas and main toilets in manor house

Liked: Beautiful grounds and rooms were exceptional. So much space for a standard room. Restaurant was brilliant!
Disliked: Check in was very slow and spa access is no longer included in the price of your stay, costing an additional £15

Good clean facilities, good value...
Liked: We did not feel special as we were not using Spa facilities we had minimum contact with staff and were sited in the mews rooms which had no air conditioning. Which would have been wonderful if the temperatures had not reached 30 degrees during the day
Disliked: Could have done with air conditioning in the room. One fan in the unprecedented heat made for a lack of good sleep

Would stay again as it’s...
Liked: Beautiful place and spa
Disliked: The breakfast was not good there was only one girl serving and we had to wait /5 mins for a coffee nothing was getting refilled and tables were not cleared. When the breakfast finally came it was cold. Also I don’t agree to having to pay into the spa pool when I’ve already paid for my room other hotels include this

Very good
Liked: The whole experience was really good the facilites were exellent and the staff were amazing.
Disliked: Only thing i have to say is that you had to pay per session , using the pool which I could understand if you were not a guest but as a guest and having to pay each time to use pool was a bit disappointing but other than that it was great

Poor
Liked: The spa was great, so was the breakfast. Staff were very professional and polite.
Disliked: There was a party that was blaring music until 12 at night, seems rather pointless going somewhere to relax and being unable to sleep or watch TV as the noise was so overwhelming.

Lovely stay but won’t be...
Liked: The building and location is absolutely stunning. Our room in the news was beautiful: Room 553 Elderflower cottage. The spa was modern and comfortable, however the pool was being rebalanced ph and we were not allowed in it. The outside area was clean and tidy.
Disliked: It was very dated and lots of remedial work needed to be done, the spa had ceiling water marks and paint peeling. The grounds in areas needed to be tended too - such a shame as it let the venue down. The staff were friendly but not very efficient for the price and service you pay to attend a Champneys.
