Great place to stay.

Liked: Lovely setting not far from Whitby. Friendly staff, well decorated and lovely comfortable rooms. Breakfast tasted fresh and even though they had a car club in the larger dining room, staff were really attentive to us.
Disliked: Pillows were a little flat.

Towel tail had copper to...

Liked: The building is beautiful and secluded. We stayed there 3 years ago and it hasn’t improved. I heard a guest saying they couldn’t get back in after an evening stroll and being told that they should have known that there’s a staff entrance that was open but if staff know the issue it might be an idea to share it upon arrival as it also happened to us. I got a call the night before we arrived saying our room was a twin and I would have to put up with that but she would sort it after hearing my concerns on an Easter weekend to book another hotel. Ended up in a room with 2 wooden beds pushed together right next to the bar. People moaning that the bar was cold, rooms were cold, mattresses were cheap and pillows were filled with old jeans, small and lumpy. Staff are all living on another plain of miserability as no one smiled making you feel as though you should be grateful for the experience. Miserable place
Disliked: Staff miserable with no respect or pleasantries. No decorum. Both Receptionist didn’t care just matter o fact,no one showed us to our room more concerned that we would eat with them and buy lots of drinks. So we had fish n chips at Whitby!breakfast a was terrible experience in a horrible room that was also the evening dining room also cold. Staff no decorum.Cook your own toast and don’t forget to ask for tea or coffee as they put the cups and saucers out boy don’t want you to use them. Breakfast plate was filled with beans on both sides to fill my plate. I feel bad that such a nice building is being ruined by these people. It’s like a dumping ground for failed hotel staff

Very good

Liked: The staff were very polite and friendly & and there was nothing too much trouble. The room was clean, towels were soft & clean. The tea/coffee tray was good & nice touch with bottled water. The building & grounds were beautiful & my favourite area was the lounge.
Disliked: The bar was a little cold & the bed was a little uncomfortable, when one moved the other felt it, shame
