Booked this hotel as was...

Liked: Looks stunning .. from the outside.
Disliked: Room was dirty, toilet was leaking, no soundproofing between rooms, breakfast service was poor. Very expensive for what was provided. Won’t be in a hurry to return.

Otherwise a pleasent overnight stay...

Liked: Lovely 'old style hotel' in beautiful setting, excellent breakfast and service
Disliked: A pity the window to our room was obscure glass the view across the garden or to Abbey next door would have been stunningThe shower panel became completely detached from its hinges, thankfully was able to steady & support it till my spouse came to the rescue.

Nice place that needs better...

Liked: Hotel set in beautiful grounds with woodland and riverside to explore. Grand looking building and plenty of parking space. The staff were friendly and the food was good (dinner and breakfast). Dog was welcome too!
Disliked: The place needs a thorough clean. The carpets did not seem vacuumed and we did not see anyone cleaning or tidying throughout our stay. The shower curtain was mouldy and there was coffee spilled on the skirting board in our room which had not been removed. No toiletries supplied except bar soap.

Superb

Liked: Loved the location – beautiful ruins right by the riverside, with well-maintained grounds perfect for walking the dog. The staff were very accommodating; although we hadn’t made a dinner booking, they managed to offer us the exact time we asked for. The whole hotel was extremely dog-friendly and impressively well looked after, especially for such an old building. The room itself was clean and beds were comfortable. Breakfast was fantastic, with plenty of choice and the option to order freshly prepared tea, coffee, and cooked dishes included.

Pleasant location but overpriced for...

Liked: The location was beautiful and the hotel building was lovely. The bed was comfortable. Our meal in the evening was very good.
Disliked: The hotel was very dated inside. Breakfast was a huge disappointment. On arrival at the breakfast area we were met by 4 young staff hanging around chatting. When we entered into the left hand breakfast room most of the empty tables were cluttered with dirty dishes, including the 2 best ones with a view to the river. We did find a clean table and then had to wait a while to be served. There was no sign of a staff supervisor. The owner of the hotel needs to realise that dirty tables gives a very poor impression of a place and that the young staff should be supervised to check that they are bothering to do their jobs properly. We won’t be back.
