Lovely farm stay

Liked: We stayed in Drovers Cottage, which was lovely! The views from the kitchen, garden and the double bedroom were stunning. The cottage was slightly secluded on the property which was perfect for us with two dogs and to give us some privacy. The first morning, we accompanied Paul on his farm feed which was a fantastic experience! He spent a good amount of time chatting with us about the animals, and we got stuck in hand feeding them all. The cottage itself was great, the kitchen spacious and the living room cosy. We would certainly return again. The area is wonderful, with Hay on Wye not far at all. Truly remote and in the countryside, a wonderful experience to be welcomed into Paul and Kesri's farm. Marta was very helpful, making sure we were settled etc.
Disliked: There were very few negatives, however some practical things to mention. The oven wasn't particularly brilliant, the doors into the building were quite stiff and difficult to open and shut, we decided not to use the doubles doors out into the garden as it was easier to not open them. The room with twin beds were very creaky but comfy. The bathrooms were lovely, however the showers were a bit impractical as they had glass panels but not fully enclosed which meant some water sprayed onto the floor/walls.

Fabulous location, lovely setting, great...

Liked: Can’t comment on the breakfast - wasn’t aware we could have had breakfast.Evening “Saffa Fish n Chips” was delicious - clean plates all around, including our 4 & 6 yr olds… the homemade tartar sauce was scrumptious too and the barn setting was lovely! We did the pony rides which was a first-time experience for our two children - they loved it and it was great value for money - Buzz (the pony) was a little superstar!Loved the evening adventure to the woods for the campfire and s’mores experience - some big fallen branches across some of the paths and gateways though so a bit tricky to navigate the paths at times but which all added to the fun for our little ones - we definitely needed our torches! The animal safari tour was great - very informative and fun for the children to get up close and feed the animals…they loved it!Overall, loved the setting and listening to the owls at night - very peaceful and a lovely safe place for the little ones to play and make friends.Marta and Patryk were extremely welcoming and friendly - a real asset to the glamping experience.
Disliked: We were really taken aback by the amount of dog poo around the cottages and farmhouse area when walking back and fore to the tree swings / play area and at the meeting point to go on the animal safari tour/pony rides - something that definitely needs improvement. We L iked the advertised eco/ethos approach that we were expecting from reading the website, however, the execution of the recycling/ re-using was less than straightforward. Perhaps a separate recycling bin in each of the safari tents with clear instructions on what to put in it would also be helpful. The details at the recycle point black-board looked good, however, not enough organisation or room to see which bins were for what and lots of contaminated and overflowing bins that didn’t look or feel great at all…sadly didn’t look well managed at all.Individual shower rooms for each safari tent was great but we had one of the larger shower rooms (furthest on the left) which, when you were either sat on the loo, taking a shower, or sat on the box by the window, the light would switch off!! Not an issue during the day as there’s natural light from the window, but less than ideal when showering late at night and having to get out to re-activate the light etc.We also had cold/luke-warm showers on the Tues & Weds and as there are no staff around on these days, it was Thursday before we could report it… it was swiftly rectified by Marta turning the boiler up and there were hot showers from then onwards which were great.I would add that a bath mat would have been a helpful addition but towards the end of our stay, I noticed the other shower rooms all had one, so I guess ours was just accidentally forgotten. Our last point to add for improvement would be to update the website in places..

Overall the idea of Drovers...

Liked: Family orientated with some nice details and a farm trail you could walk round when you wanted. Some lovely animals and seemed a friendly vibe with extras if you wanted. Lots of parking and some amazing walks and views. Only a short distance to Hay on Wye where there are lovely shops, cafes and books!
Disliked: The Cart House was a good size and initially looked good. However it became very quickly obvious that the entire accommodation was quite dirty. There were a lot of cobwebs with dead flys hanging off them in quite visible places. Dead wasps on the windowsills and flys which my daughter cleaned up. The cafetière was filthy as was the frying pan, cutlery and wooden chopping board. I immediately put all the culinary equipment back in the dishwasher on an intensive wash. The bed linen in the master bedroom had no buttons or fasteners so the duvet cover kept coming off the duvet. Were also some unpleasant marks on there as well. Also the accommodation is classed as self catering but the equipment in the kitchen was very minimal as were the cleaning supplies. I had to buy anti bac spray, kitchen roll and rubber gloves. My daughter dropped something under the sofa so I had to move the sofa to retrieve it and let’s just say I don’t think they have ever been cleaned under. Wasn’t nice. When I pay over £1000 for 4 nights accommodation, I expect it to be clean and I don’t expect to be asked to put all the recycling and rubbish out and definitely don’t expect to have to strip the beds before I leave. Also we paid for a pony ride for my daughter but unfortunately it was cancelled which is fair enough but what is poor is to not be told and for me to be walking around a field for 10 mins looking for the riding instructor. We left early in the end as it didn’t match our expectations and the vision their website creates.

OK but not a 5...

Liked: Setting was lovely and so nice for kids to all run around and play together
Disliked: Tent wasn't clean, found old sock under bed, mouldy old bread left from previous guests and outside table was thick with dirt. Restaurant was only open one day of the stay. Price was expensive for what it was. There was no hot water and other guests complained to us that they had the same issue. (Only managed one hit shower in 4 days)
