Well worth the time getting...
Liked: Entire staycation was first class
Disliked: Would have liked information from hotel staff on arrival regarding spa bath in our room, as the hotel had stopped these from working some time ago. There was also no sign to say the poolside ladder was unsteady.

Spiders, expensive and a little...
Liked: The main reception/building is very striking but this set our expectations high and ultimately, the hotel and spa didn’t deliver. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was tasty, hot and offered a lot of choice. There was a full continental breakfast available (juice, fruit, pastries, yoghurts and cereal) as well as a full cooked menu to choose from. Over the few days we visited we enjoyed the full cooked breakfast, the veggie breakfast, a gluten free full cooked breakfast, eggs Benedict and the pancakes with bacon, all of which were well cooked, fresh, nicely presented, generous portions and very tasty! One of our party said the veggie sausages were delicious and the best they’d tasted. The grounds are quite nice to walk around which is a nice feature. The walk in shower was very large with good water pressure.
Disliked: We stayed in one of the coach houses which is quite a bit away from the main hotel. The room was a little tired, very dusty and absolutely full of spiders. The ceilings are very high which must be difficult to clean but the light fitment above the sink was dusty, there was dust behind the headboard and spiders in the bath and shower, all of which was very reachable and should have been cleaned before our stay. The TV was very basic even though there was a fire stick remote, there was no receiver, wasn’t sure if this was left by a previous guest? There was no coffee machine, the rooms in the main hotel had this, our coach house didn’t. The kettle was full of limescale that flaked off when used, in serious need of a deep clean. The bed was ok, we travel with our own pillows, and the bedding was clean, the mattress was well used and quite soft. The price is expensive for the quality of the room, we had a friend who had a room in the main hotel and this standard seemed a little higher. It feels like the hotel at one point was very grand and now is tired and lacking that wow factor it maybe once had.Due to the location, they can clearly charge a high rate as there are limited hotels in the area. When we checked out the staff didn’t ask how our stay was, which felt deliberate, almost like they anticipated there would be some concerns. The spa was a little disappointing, the jacuzzi/hot tub was closed, there is a small steam room and sauna both of which are ok, but again, look tired. The pool is nice and there is a lot of seating around it, fresh towels available but very limited changing facilities, which are unisex, this didn’t bother us, but it may be a concern for others. To be clear, there is a locker room (that requires £1) and within that room there are x2 cubicles, this is used by all spa guests. There are toilet facilities in the same area that can be used.

Better than we expected. Dinner...
Liked: Really beautiful old well maintained building in well maintained huge grounds. Location in depths of countryside. Friendly helpful staff
Disliked: Cocktail bar surprisingly unlike rest of hotel. Soulless.
