The Spotlight on Downtown Value Inn

Affordable Comfort in the Heart of Portland

Modern convenience meets wallet-friendly pricing at the Downtown Value Inn, located in the vibrant heart of downtown Portland. Just a short walk to Portland State University and close to major music venues, this hotel offers a no-frills but comfy place to crash after a night out. With free Wi-Fi, a microwave and fridge in every room, and cable TV with HBO, it's got everything you need for a quick weekend trip or a longer stay.

Why Concert-goers love it

Downtown Value Inn is a solid choice for music lovers thanks to its central location—you can walk to several concert venues, including the Portland Center for the Performing Arts. The 24-hour front desk is a plus for late-night returns, and rooms are generally quiet, especially after the music fades. While check-in starts at 3:00 PM and check-out is 11:00 AM, guests appreciate the staff's flexibility when available.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a budget base near the action
  • Solo travelers catching a dream show
  • Couples on a music-fueled weekend escape
  • Fans wanting a quiet, no-fuss place to recover post-show
  • Budget-conscious music fans who prefer to spend on concert tickets, not accommodations

Food and Drink Options

While there’s no on-site restaurant, each room includes a microwave and fridge, making late-night snacks easy. You’ll find walkable eateries and food carts nearby, and plenty of coffee shops to grab a late breakfast after a night out. No 24/7 room service here, but downtown Portland has your cravings covered.

Nightlife Options

You're in downtown Portland, so nightlife is at your doorstep. From local bars and lounges to after-show hangouts, there’s plenty to explore just blocks away. While the hotel doesn’t offer live music or a bar, you’re never far from the next round.

What People Say

Guests love the location and value for money. Many mention the proximity to public transport and music venues as a major plus. Reviewers consistently note the rooms are simple but clean, and the staff is friendly and helpful. It’s not fancy, but it gets the job done for concert-goers on a budget.

Areas for Improvement

This is a budget hotel, so don't expect luxury. Some guests mention the rooms are a bit dated, and the parking can be limited. But if you're here for the music, not the marble floors, these are easy trade-offs.

The Bottom Line

If you're heading to Portland for a concert and want a budget-friendly, centrally located stay with the basics covered, Downtown Value Inn hits the right notes.

Superb

Liked: The hotel's name undersells the accommodation. Whilst it's excellent value for money, it's not the bargain basement establishment the name suggests. It's close to several tram (streetcar) stops in the university district. The homelessness visible in other parts of the city is less noticeable around the hotel. My room was huge with a view onto a quiet, attractive street.
Disliked: The only minor gripe is that the nearby tram stops result in some noise, although it didn't affect my sleep.

Disliked: that parking lot is so tight, and i drive a small car! Not a lot to be done with the building structure, but I almost feel like a warning note needs to be added to parking availability as some larger cars will not fit.

My stay was safe, clean,...

Liked: What a perfect location!! Close to public transportation, a block away from CVS, a swanky pizzeria on the bottom floor of the hotel...amazing!! Parking was a little tight but I'm also in a truck. So many cameras in the parking garage I felt safe leaving my truck there overnight. There's also street parking right out front if you can grab a spot. The entire building and my room had that old school, old timey, hasn't changed much since the beginning charm to it. Old, simple, nice. The staff was AMAZING! Very friendly and helpful team.
Disliked: There was no elevator that I saw. Only stairs. I also didn't ask so I guess I could've been there. There was plastic around some things like they had just painted and forgot to take it down. No biggie but it stuck out. Nothing is updated- I really didn't mind. I like the old feel of things. One of the 3 pillows provided was lumpy as hell.
